  • Parhelia projected clockspeed

Got an email from Matrox PR this morning. Apparently the Parhelia will have a graphics clockspeed of ~220mhz .

You must be very special to be informed of such things.

err, xortam, I have a extremely good relationship with Matrox PR. They just don't want to give people the wrong expectations. They're being amazingly forthright in their statements .

The response was in response , to my E3 meeting with Matrox which you can read at http://www.nvnews.net or http://www.pcrave.com .

You might have good relations with them but they ain't telling you the truth if that's what they've told you

kudos to Matrox for being so upfront about the clock speed. 220MHz isn't too bad. as long as it outputs 65-75fps or higher with everything turned on at high resolutions, i won't be complaining.

What other information can you get us? Will it be a full 256-bit GPU?

              256? How about 512.

ben2207 informed me that Matrox had to trim the P down to a 256-bit GPU due to heat problems. Plans are to ship the 512-bit version when they go to 130 nm later this summer.

I think we can trust Ben, he's the one that posted the first E3 impressions about Parhelia and his comments at Beyond3D are valued and knowledgeable.

220 MHz does sound a little low... But then again the transistor count is high? Anyways, this makes me wonder what differences we can expect in different versions of the Parhelia... Or maybe Ben has been given one of those "PR truths" - you know, the "equipped with Nvidia's new-generation Geforce4 MX graphics adapter" kind. Maybe they said the specs of the 64 MB consumer version to lead competitors to think that Parhelia can be taken lightly

LOL xortram . Look it doesn't matter what you think of me. But what possible reason would I have to make this up? Did you not like my impressions of my meeting with Sebastian Macdougal at E3 and SurroundGaming? In any event, Matrox has historically never disclosed clockspeeds, and I'm as surprised as you are that they sent the email...

Can't find your stuff on the NVNews main page, do you have a direct link?

Mr. Sun ... I have no opinion of you (yet) as I've only seen you make a single comment. As I said, I was just being ornery. Your comment is suspect because as you've stated, Matrox hasn't revealed clock speeds in the past. I would suspect that anyone privy to such information would be subject to an NDA. Perhaps Matrox is changing their policy ... I don't know. Hey, we've scared off one or two people in the past that later turned out to have posted the truth. I'm not too concerned about comments coming outside of Matrox prior to the actual product release. I also believe that the final product specs aren't cast in stone yet.

Pace, yeah we're having server issues due to a posting of 206 screenshots of E3 LOL .

Xortram fair enough be ornery . As to NDAs I was asked to make the correction because I stated in my E3 report 300mhz wasn't a likelihood.
