  • c't: Parhelia available in july

    Hi all,

the german magazine c't writes that the Parhelia-512 will be available in july. They say the Parhelia can be pre-ordered in the Matrox Online-Shop at 1st of july.

The 128-MByte card will cost 549,- Euro and will be shipped wth the colour calibration tool "Coloreal" from Waytech and a Photoshop Plugin that let's you work with 10-bit colour depth with TIFF and PNG-files.

The 64- and 256-MByte Parhelias will be shipped later this summer. The 64-Mbyte card will also be shipped with the 256-bit bus-technology.

    have a nice weekend. :-)

This sounds good and all but I dont think the 64MB verison is going to be neutered down to 256-bit tech..or did you mean 512-bit?
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

      Hi GT98,

      gnagna... ;-)

I just wrote what i read in the c't: "256-Bit Datenbus".

What they mean is, that the 64M-Byte card will use the same techniques as the 128- and 256-MByte versions..

Oh, another thing: there will be bulk-versions available, lower prices and lower clocked (?!).

And it is indeed a 256Bit wide bus, the "512Bit" just come from the DDR RAM.

All competitors up to now use a 128Bit wide bus and double it by the use of DDR RAM to a 256Bit comparable bandwidth.

Hmm, 549 euro as compared to the alledged 400 dollar the card is/was gonna cost in the US. Seems as if us Europeans are gonna end up paying a price premium once again. I can only imagine what kind of price the 256mb version will be

I would love to have a Parphelia, but at that price, I don't think it's gonna happen
When I was still a kid, my parents got me a Packard Bell. I've never been happier. Now it's degraded to a foot support.

549€ i guess that means Radeon 8500LE for the next time for me then

This is the absolute opposite of what you read in c't, Kas... I'd guess c't really only meant 128 bit DualBus or something to that effect

No P for me either... I wasn't expecting to be able to afford one, but these prices are just gross!

Thop, be careful with the specific card you choose, IF you decide to get a R8500LE.
Some third party ("Powered by ATI") products seem to cause problems for many people - I'd like to mention especially the PowerColor EvilMaster cards, here - don't get one of those.
Gigabyte seem fine as do Hercules (but the latter have no second RamDAC), the safest bet would be a "built by ATI"

(But then my "powered by ATI" XELO Radeon8500 is working really fine, but this card is according to it's serial number really a built by ATI one. After "penciling" it works fine at 300/300 instead of 250/250 without any extra cooling).

thanks for the working indiana i was going to get a 100% original ATI though, because those are also the only ones with acceptable image quality.

The Parhelia chip is a 512-bit GPU, which will not change, with a true 256-bit DDR memory bus, which also will not change. Differences more than likely will be in core clock speeds and memory configurations.

One will probably have to order it from the US

But maybe the bulk version of the card is also fast enough.
I think I have to look on some benchmarks.......

Sorry Magog, but retail card would men the "normal", e.g. more expensive one, with box, manual, driver CD, utilities, software bundle, etc... I suppose you mean the non-retail, e.g. the bulk version?

I didn't post to be nit-picky, just to be sure to understand what you mean, or if your press contact has told you things we don't know
