That's only because they now force hlt command on every other clock cycle. It's not reducing clocks but allows it to run cooler/stable

Does that mean that they only use 1 out of every 2 clock cycles?

Keep talking, it still is faster than everything other out there and really seems to be able to play all current and even most nearere future games in e.g. 1600x1200 with AA and high quality anisotropic filtering at framerates that should even please framerate junkies.
For me those possibilities of playing video-streams back through the Shaders providing independence of any "overlays" are the best feature. And those FullStream shots do look nice.

Of course all that remains ATI marketing hype as longs as there's not one single really buyable card out there.

Don't say foolish crap! Everybody knows that Canadian beer is as good as US beers. Irish beer, I can live with it, they do brew good ones (favorite's Guinness) but don't EVER say again that Canadian beer is part of the best beers! Belgium produces the best ones around. We happen to have 400+ different beers in our small countries... and the so called canadian beer is probably produced in a brewery owned by interbrew.. wich is.. belgian
... and I know what I'm talking about, I've been in Canada on april/may!

Take a good look at the past ATI's products release. They NEVER lived up to what they say they would, why should we believe them this time?

To each his own ... I can't stand Lambic beers. I've tried many ... including several tap Belgium beers while in Switzerland. Yuck! Don't like Scottish ales either! Give me a good bitter, British ale, stout, porter, pale ale, or even an occasional wheat. IPA is tops! Lots of good beers out there but you can keep the Lambics.

... and while we're off topic ... its still called a Bimmer.

I don't believe them, but even if I subtract the usual 20% ATIs marketing buttheads seem to add from those performance-numbers, the chip still looks way superior to the current competition in the field I'm looking at: high-res with AA and >=16x aniso.

I'm a bit concerned about the final cards 2D quality though as the R8500 already has a bit worse 2D than the RadeonVIVO had. The fact that you most likely will have a hard time to get Built-by-ATI 9700 cards doesn't really help here (PowerColor, ugh!)

That's partially right ... a BMW motorcycle is a Beemer and a BMW automobile is a Bimmer. Ask a BMW owner.

I've always thought that the Beemer was ANY BMW.

Back to topic, I as far as ATI's new cards go, their hardware kicks ass, but they won't have decent (notice I when I say decent it means that it doesn't crash all the time and you can actually play at least the most common games) until it's the last generation card. ATI has some of the worse drivers around.

I will say this: I really don't care how great the product is, it could be the greatest thing since sliced bread. I know some people go for watercooling. Good for them. I know people who overclock their PCs like mad.. good for them. But I'll be darned if I'm going to have a card that takes external power in.. it just seems like a damn bad idea... one day, in the middle of computing, whammo, the adapter comes unplugged/gets broken/shorts/whatever.. (as happened with my Umax scanner) well.. I lost a scanner then.. I can't imagine what would happen with a flaky brick adapter powering an AGP card.. maybe a rarity.. but still, enough that I wouldn't consider it. If they can't come up with a solution that works by the power guidelines, then they need to go back to the drawing board.. or hell, just take an internal 12VDC connector, not some extra external connector for pete sake

Didn't know that is was totaly external. I think what people meant by external power is : "outside the AGP slot". Well still a very bad idea. It looks like the first funny pics of the mercedes class A spreading all over the net with some side wheels to help it keep balance. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong but I feel like that toward that kind of product.

BTW guys, don't flame me because I said something about the class A.. it's not a bad car, I was just talking about the joke on the net...
