  • Dual DVI & TV

    Hi,
Does anyone know if the Parhelia chip will support 2 DVI flat panels and TV out.

Looking at the Chip Block Diagram i dont see why it shouldnt.

I understand the current 128MB card does not but if the chip is capable of this then could we see it in a future card?

If a future card could support this then it would give a really useful feature to a lot of multimedia producers, as at present if you dont play games there is not really any reason to upgrade from a Dual DVI G550 to the Parhelia.

no, it does not. maybe you can search on the subject because this has been asked many times before.

From what i can find Dual DVI and TV out has only been spoke about in terms of the currently released board, not the chipset.

Anyway its not that easy to search for things when the main words your are looking for 'DVI' and 'TV' are both too short to be searched for.

sice the card only has 2 ramdacs this is also impossible on the chip level i guess.

why shouldn't it be possible? G400 family only had 1 ramDAC and could output to 1 screen and 1 tv at the same time.

Surely it does not need a RAMDAC for DVI output

It has a two display controller.
The third head on the Parhelia is special, and will only work for triple head in gaming

you're right, my fault. just been explaining how a ramdac works on my 'home forum', gathering.tweakers.net (don't bother to check it out unless you're dutch ) and now i goof up on a simple question like this. sorry bout that.

                  Maybe this could help?

Surely TV encoders need only to be pointed to a correct portion of graphics memory to do their thing?
And are completely seperate from RamDacs and DVI encoders

Hmm I'm starting to wonder if M put that on the board so they could make an el cheapo Parhelia Varient down the road with out Dual DVI or No DVI at all. Sorta like the RSN Chip thats missing at the top of the board also
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

G400 actually had a secondary RAMDAC at 135MHz. All Matrox DH boards use a second RAMDAC.

Isnt the TV/Video Encoder A RAMDAC of sorts?

if i'm not mistaken, it is merely a video encoding chip and needs a RAMDAC in order to output to the display. therefore, it's not really a RAMDAC in itself.
