  • Create Your Own Graphics Card Company

How hard would it be to create your own graphics card company?

If I wanted to create a a graphics card, without any gaming features, how difficult would it be?

A solely business/production orientated card with features such as:-
    Full Dual / Triple Head,
    Multiple Video Overlays & Mixing,
Video Input Port (For connection to other Cards)
    And other useful features?

What Type/How many people would I need?
    P4 2400MHz , On Intel i845GE, 1024MB Cas 2 DDR
    Matrox G550 Dual DVI
    2x iiyama 4332 17" LCD
    2x WD 80000JB (8MB Cache)
    Echo Mia
    Plextor PlexCombo
    CoolerMaster ATC-500
    Canopus ADVC-100

according to talon graphics, all you need, to design a nv30 killer, is ms paint.

seriously, designing hardware probably requires a lot of talent and hard work, and making prototypes is very expensive.

A card without 3d is probably a bit easier though.

hmm! i just realized that im babbling, and donĀ“t know the answer to your question.
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

Surely just 1 person to buy a load of 2nd hand G series cards and re-spray them? And sell them on as expensive business kit.

so you want to make g200 mms?

matrox already do quad head 2d card...with some 3d(kind of)

well if your serious you would either need to appropriate some engineer's from a video card maker or find some keen new graduates who have there shit together and some good(new) ideas.

Thje video card market is looking up, competition is hotting up.
We have nvidia, ati, creative and matrox all with good new tech coming through. Also add sis and *cough* via with there....well lets forget via.

Not a good time to even think about starting a new graphics card company...unless you are just going to buy chips and use reference designs.

You would also need to copy the Matrox web page!

According to the latest official figures, 43% of all statistics are totally worthless...

In basic 2D you would have to compete with Matrox on the high end and Intel, Via, SiS, S3 and the like on the low end.

Intel introducing 854G chipset for the P4 (sufficient for basic office tasks) severely dented the marketshare of Rage and TNT based el cheapo cards.

Current Videocards (released and soon to be released) costing 400$ and nVidia's stock at all times low seem to be related to this.
