I remember the thread. The source was Xbitlabs. I have a backup copy of the e-mail.

That's nice Amiga, but you're sources are traditionally very bad. Whenever NDA-covered information came my way, your information almost always was incorrect. VigilAnt, on the other hand, keeps striking gold.

Well, as rumors are flying that the current Parhelia is practically beta-silicon with lots of features broken, it wouldnt suprise me too much if Matrox have the fixed version of the Parhelia waiting in the wings. Who knows, it might even be the GeForce killer we all thought the original P was going to be.

if what you say is true RichL (and i guess we will never really know, like the G800 story) i wonder why matrox did rush the supposed beta P and didnt wait a few months to release the proper one lets say christmas? did they want to make a quick buck? did they at all?

totally OT: but are matrox employees still bound to some sort of NDA when they loose their job?

I'd assume there would be some clause that would continue for x number of years

The original Parhelia was hyped (admittedly mostly by ourselves) as being a GEForce killer and it wasnt until shortly before the release date that Matrox started looking a bit sheepish and saying "Well actually, it wont be....but it has these other cool features.."

If they'd have said "Well it'll match the current GeForce every step of the way and have these other cool features...and it'll be along in another year..." they might as well have closed up the graphics division and gone home.
They'd have done a Bitboys on themselves. After the G800 /G1000 fiascos, I dont expect they wanted a 3rd one.

Maybe they rushed it out because someone had to choose between finalizing the product and being the first company with a "next gen" part.

but then, except for TH and FAA (which is a story on it's own), the P isnt really next gen. on papers yes, in real world surprisingly not. also the more or less minor glitches caused some damage to matrox otherwise flawless reputation. not much damage, but still.
if they release a proper P they will iron it out, but some bad aftertaste stays for some of the people who already bought the P. matrox is lucky this didn't get much press.
i'm a bit curious what stunt marketing will pull to explain this (the relation between the supposed beta P and the fixed one)
                              no matrox, no matroxusers.

I don't believe there will be an explanation, they will release it with the usual marketing babble
