Has anyone noticed that Matrox has changed their official logo recently?
Now it says: "Matrox -- Graphics for Professionals"

They are going after the "Professional analog-output non-longhorn two-dimensional perfect-flat graphics design" market.

So mind you, they ARE providing solutions for 2D-pong professional gamers... those bouncy balls are more vibrant on their cards! And because of being analog, there's less ghosting on teh screen when the ball moves.

            Chrono...no offence....BUT
I highly doubt that anyone would be interested in buying a matrox card after reading your little (very technical) statement...

Well they will have to come up with at least DX9.0c WGF1.0 ready chip by mid 06 in order to be ready for Longhorn. Considering they haven't had a new chip since 03 (P750/650, except if discount native PCIe Parhelia LX core), they might have been slowly tinkering on something with what's left of their RND department.

It was also pointless for them (considering their 3-year cycle) to have come up with something with higher level shaders before Longhorn specifications have been set as subsequent generations would have been incompatible.

Haig has just told me, that they aren't going to drop Surround Gaming too easily.

                    Sure!
Two new G550 cards for PCI Express x1 will support *some games in even quad display mode

                    * games 5 years old or more only
A CRAY is the only computer that runs an endless loop in just 4 hours...

You can't get stretched resolution over multiple adapters, and you will need stretched mode, if you really want Surround Gaming...

I've heard somewhere (2cpu forums AFAI remember) that this limitation is mainly because typically users try to use cards on different buses (AGP, PCI), and that it presumably works with three identical Nvidia PCI cards (each using only single head). However this presumably works only up to DX7 - introduction of shaders complicated things.
I don't know if this is true and have no means (mostly financiall...) to check it out.
