I like the fact that the NHL is reserving final punishment on how things go with Moore's recovery.
If Moore is actually able to come back to the game next year, maybe Bertuzzi can come back too.
But if Moore is never able to come back to the game, if his livelyhood was taken away because of this broken neck, Bertuzzi should not be allowed back.

I also think the Vancouver police should press assault charges on Bertuzzi. If anyone else did what he did off the ice, they'd be tossed in jail. Sure hockey is a rough sport, but that does not excuse that kind of blatant attack.

BTW- ATM, the Avs are flogging the Stars again, 4-2 in the 2nd period

    edit:
Update- Colorado wins game2 over Dallas 5-2, leads series 2-0

My two daughters are rabid hockey fans (one lives in Chilliwack the other in my basement)...
Laurie, if your daughter lived much farther east than Chilliwack, she’d be pulling for the Flames.
McSorley/Brashear incident was far less severe than what Bertuzzi did.
Haig, I don’t understand that opinion at all. McSorley was a “goon” his entire career, and he attacked a guy from behind with a weapon (his stick), clubbing Brashear across the head and knocking him out cold before he hit the ice. That is somehow “far less severe”??!!! Geez, I guess Bertuzzi should have used his stick instead of his glove then!
But if Moore is never able to come back to the game, if his livelihood was taken away because of this broken neck, Bertuzzi should not be allowed back.
And why would the NHL do that in light of the fact that Matt Johnson (another career “goon” like McSorley) got a grand total of 12 games for ending Jeff Beukeboom’s career in a similar incident? Not a chance.

Personally, I think that is less severe.

McSorely attack Brashear from behind and the end result was a consussion.

Punishment = 1 year & McSorely never came back.

Bertuzzi was publically talking about how he will get his revenge in that game. End result was attack from behind which resulted in a broken neck.

        Punishment = ?

At the very least, Bertuzzi should get the same as McSorely. But we know he won't becuase Bertuzzi isn't a goon.

Becuase the NHL has some kind of dart board that decides what the punishment is I agree that their punishments do not make sense at all sometimes.

Why not let Bertuzzi play and make him pay Moores salary while Moore is out .That would be a hard cheque

            What was this thread about?

Haig, we could debate this endlessly and not agree to any concrete solution. However, I think every one of us is in complete agreement that we don't need or want to see that kind of nonsense ever again.

Weren't we talking about the playoffs here originally?

Let's go Canucks! Douse those Flames !!!

                  An oversight or...

                  Go Habs
                  Go Sens
                  Go Leafs
                  Go Canuks
Elie, you realize that you've now lost any friends you might have had in Calgary!

I guess I should mention that the Canucks played a good game tonight in Cow Town. Vancouver is now ahead 2-1 in the series.

Shouldn't this be transferred to The Loung or, better, Temp?

Brian, just because the only ice you ever see is in your drink doesn't mean the rest of us can't have some fun. Not necessarily including myself, but look at the quality of forum members who have participated in this thread over the years. This thread has a history here!

Hockey has always had a place in this forum dating back to the Rainbow Runner days, perhaps because Matrox was/is a Canadian company. Even Chris (This Idiot) from the UK used to chime in on occasion about hockey. Have a look at This thread from the archives. Interestingly enough, there was some guy named “Brian” commenting on hockey in that thread as well.

Thanks Sasq for leaving well enough alone!

                              Whoa there Elie,
Ottawa out played them, out chanced them, and out checked them. They beat them in every aspect of the game, except for where it counted, the score sheet
But you have to admit, this year is by far the best year in a long time for watching some really exciting hockey games. And boy am I ever glad that there are hardly any overtime games. Those kill me. I can't stay up late like I used too.
