OT: Stanley Cup Playoffs

Up 4-2 Vancouver played their usual "lets try to defend a lead but lose it" third period and were lucky to make it to overtime. Wife and I went to bed after regulation.

I heard an announcer castigating the fans who left the game in overtime. Geez, some people have to get up in the morning to get to work.

I'm one who won't invest much needed sleep in overtime no matter how good the hockey. I'll watch the overtime goal on Sportsnet or TSN the next morning.

Hey Laurie, you're showing your age there. Back in the younger days, you would be able to watch the game till the cows came home, drink beer, and still get up for work in the morning and do it all over again the next night.
And my age is showing too, I have a harder time justifying staying up late watching an overtime game nowdays.
Responsibility is a really big word

I was watching with my daughter and son-in-law in our(their) basement suite. They weren't surprised when I said goodnight after the third period.

Son-in-law is a hockey fanatic. Plays hockey, collects hockey cards, has a subscription to Hockey News, enters on-line hockey pools etc. He unfortunately did not get to see the overtime goal since he works midnights at one of the local hospitals. Bummer !!

Hopefully, the Sens will make it at least to the division finals this year. They really took it to the Pens but I think the Pens will show up in the 2nd game.

Glad you're still around you Hab fan you.
My heart broke when the Leafs took last Saturday's game.
But I hate these afternoon games. My daughter has gymnastics, and a birthday party to go to on Sat. I'm going to miss most of the Sens game. I hate the NHL, bring back the old days when there was a fixed schedule where the teams played every other night. &^*$^*

DETROIT -- They waited for months to get an opportunity at redemption, and on the playoffs' opening night, the Red Wings didn't disappoint.

The Wings couldn't have scripted this evening better. They dominated the Calgary Flames, 4-1.

Now, they need 15 more to end the spring with that trophy they want.

"We played smart and controlled the game for 60 minutes," goalie Dominik Hasek said.

It was a mismatch almost from the start. The Wings outshot the Flames 46-20, had the majority of the scoring chances and, most importantly, were the more physical team.

The Wings won all the one-on-one battles. They played with more determination, desire and will. They were the hungrier team.

As much as I like Calgary, I really think Colorado would have done better justice to that final playoff spot in the West.

Watched all of the games on Wednesday (flipping back and forth, also including the Canucks game right to the end) - best game by far was the Sharks Preds game.


I'm betting on an Anaheim-Buffalo final. After those two, I'm gonna say San Jose-Ottawa.

Most habs fans here were happy to see the Isles win the next day though

I agree these afternoon games make no sense. The schedule in the old days is really the way to go.

I would have loved to see the habs make it to the playoffs but in another sense, with the way they have played, I'm glad they didn't.

I just find it funny that the Islanders beat NJ to make it past TO in the playoffs. IF TO would have lost (like they should have ) then there would have been another Canadian team to try and keep the Stanley Cup in Canada.

Flames shoulder the blame

DETROIT -- Jarome Iginla is tired of the Red Wings eagerly leaping onto the ice as if their pants are on fire. Iginla says that's how players react when they are on the power play and know they are about to fire buckets of pucks at the net.

And he blames himself and his Calgary Flames teammates for the Wings' glee. Iginla said penalties and dumb play are the reasons the Flames trail 2-0 in the Western Conference quarterfinal heading into tonight's Game 3 at Calgary.

The Wings fired 97 shots at goalie Miikka Kiprusoff in two games at Joe Louis Arena. He's been brilliant but not perfect. The Flames have been outshot 97-35 and outscored 7-2.

Flames suck on the road, and are the best at home. That said - I still don't think they can win the series. Won tonight 3-2 tho.
