No. Without going into the eternal argument about who exactly decided that a piece of cloth dangling from your neck is "stylish" anyways, many people aren't comfortable in a suit... and it definitely shows. Okay, a good suit doesn't feel that bad, but many people that are forced to wear one cannot afford tailored suits. And as has been stated, there are many jobs that involve activities where a suit is completely out of place.

the tie is designed to hide the 'unfashionable' buttons of the shirt, and compliment the color of the suit.

Sorry, I have a friend that has vanished into the worl do f big buiness and buys very expensive suits.

Some Ties are revolting perhaps the owner should wear an overcoat to hide them and match his shoes.

I hate having to wear shirt and tie... It is so unpractical.

I am a student. I can not afford to dry clean my ties every day. I wash my ties when they look dirty, and only then.
I can not think of a better way for infection to spread around a hospital.

These past two months doing paediatrics have been great. I wore a plain long sleived T-shirt and trousers on the grounds that a) kids dont care, and b) there are enough barriers in hospital without having to enforce the 'doctor-patient' relationship.

I think it's important to wear a suit and tie to an interview as it shows that you're prepaired to make an effort. If I was interviewing someone and they turned up in scruffy jeans unshaven and with greasy hair they'd have one hell of a time convincing me they were the one for the job.

I can agree with the whole interview thing, getting all dressed up in a suit tie, ya know the whole nine yards...Having said that, there is a BIG difference in getting dressed up for an interview, or even a couple of them that will last a couple of hours and having to get dressed up every day, and doing any kind of manuel labor what so ever, like walking around for instance.

But seriously, there are some occations that call for a better appeaence, like an interview, marrage, and things of that sort, but day to day, give me simplicity baby!

I think that there is a big difference in dress codes between countries. Some have school uniforms etc. and are used to dressing up in a suit and a tie.

I myself would probably not even think of dressing in a suit for a job interview. I would see to that I'm shaven & that I and my clothes are tidy & clean, but that's what I'm doing everyday anyways. I would probably be wearing what I'm wearing for university everyday (possibly including a pair of dark blue jeans, horrors).

Then again, I'm "only" 24 yo so I'd hardly be applying for an executive position...

Tempest to me that would indicate that you're not possibly be prepaired to make an effort. So in an interview if you tied with someone who displayed the same quanlities and knowledge yet the other one was prepaired to go that extra step that would mean you'd miss out.
Now I went to school thta didn't have uniforms. A blessing that was. Parents didn't have for fork for a new uniform every month as you grew. Even better when you walked past other schools and I walked past three on the way home, you didn't get beaten up as the other pupils didn't know which school you went too. Of course we could beat them up as we knew exactly where they came from.

Well, also being Finlandeese, and being in a position to employ people... I very probably would not hire a person in a suit for a technical position. But I would probably hire one in a suit to a project manager position, or to a consultant role.

Yes, in Finland applying for a technical position in a suit and tie is a mistake, mostly it shows you know nothing about real life jobs, and that you are probably incompetent technically as well.

I know my learned English friends with their "casual Fridays" have different practices. When you are applying for a foreign position you have to be aware of these cultural differences

I wonder if you can get a suit and tie that's made out of denim?

Sure you can! Then you'll have all of those polyester wearin' chumps totally outclassed.
