ATI isn't half bad lately... since their recent acquisitions.

I would still get screwed

Have the creative team write drivers for the s3 chip built onto a Diamond motherboard. Run away!Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Well, I couldn't vote since there isn't a non of the above option. I have all 3 of those in my system and it has been mostly trouble free. Sure, I have the occasional problem, but I really think it comes down to the mobo manufacturer. I have bought Asus for a long time now and I would get nothing else. I do have one annoying video related bug in 2d, but it disappears for a month sometimes.
How about annoying software that ****s up your entire system like ICQ or Norton System Works. Some antivirus software blows too. Those are far worse than any of the above combo I've had. Oooh! Don't forget about Zip drives! ahhhh! I hated my zip drive.

I never had ICQ screw up my system. But 99b was the last version I ran, so maybe it got worse as AOL digested it.
I can't believe Creative software never messed up your computer....Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Honestly, I have never had creative cause my computer to crash(excetp for a bug with Unreal2, not sure if it us Unreal2 ro creative) but I have had proboems with the software. Littel things like EAX not shutting off after closing a game, changes not tkaing effect after a reboot, etc...Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

Add in to that a bit of Sierra software that when uninstalling decided to wipe EVERY program file off the machine... how on earth did they manage that !?!?
I voted for the first option - I only have first hand experience of Creative (the most troublesome hardware I have ever had in this machine...) - but Via I have heard lots of bad things about. From all I hear ATi has improved significantly recently.DM says: Crunch with Matrox Users@ClimatePrediction.net

Via just chewed up my performance. Changed mobo, and things flew....
Burning is faster, games, appps, all is faster.
I'm never getting a via chipset again.
Creative has been good to me, never had any probs.

Not had any probs with Creative's drivers. VIA on the other hand ... That being said I have my ancient KT133/Duron700/G400/Audigy2 running reasonably well at the mo, but can't wait to replace it with 746FX/Athlon2GHz/Parhelia next month or earlier.[size=1]D3/\/7YCR4CK3R
