You know, I'm overweight. Why? Because I eat too much. Can I simply stop, or just eat fat-free? No. It isn't as easily done as said. You know you sit too much in front of the computer. You know you should go out a bit more (not clubbing, but hiking etc.). I dare you to simply do this (sure, some might, but the majority will have excuses). Or, for the smokers or drinkers here: Just quit.

P.S.: I simply don't find the picture funny, nor aesthetic (sp?).

Az - I'm in the same (large) boat as you. But I find it funny. I've always been able to laugh at myself - something I feel more people should try to do.
And no, I don't find the photo aesthetically pleasing
[edit: I meant more people should laugh at themselves, not at me!]FT.

I´m a bit overweight too. But as I can see both you and I know why we are so. That´s my point! I never said it´s easy to lose weight, what I´m trying to say is I surely can´t blame it on the genetics, because I simply don´t exercise, I do eat my big mac and pizza here and there, and so on.

Tony, I can laugh at myself (I'm easy to point at, of late - hard to miss me if you point in my general direction ), I like to think.
But I really never found pictures of fat people or otherwise gross pics (like those on www.uglypeople.com ) funny. Never found rotten.com funny either. I really like black humor (and some very morbid humor, too), but I cannot understand how people find pics like these funny

I reckon the reality is that Microsoft makes our computers give out "fat rays" to keep us sitting down and using more of their software.

Look, you can be genetically predisposed to something without giving into it.
YOU ARE NOT YOUR GENETICS. You are a person with free will.
You can CHOOSE to not overeat. Period.
I'm overweight. Not morbidly so, but I could stand to lose 25 pounds, and turn another 25 from fat into muscle.
How do I do this? Stop sitting on my ass, get up and exercise. Problem is I don't LIKE exercising.
So I know what my problem is. I'm overweight and it's MY FAULT. Am I genetically predisposed to it? Sure. Look at both of my grandmothers - they're good 'n' plump. My dad has a good spare tire going. But if I got off my ass, this wouldn't be an issue.
There ARE some people who, despite all they try, cannot lose weight. For those people, I feel bad... and sincerely hope that genetic research finds a fix.
In the meantime, there are prescription drugs to help you lose weight when you diet. They show great promise.
But I've seen too damn many fat people who just eat and eat and EAT AND EAT AND EEEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTTTTT. Those people aren't doing themselves any good.
Don't say "it's my glands" while you're downing a box of ding-dongs. If you're eating the "all-celery" diet, going for brisk walks 3 times a day, and STILL gaining weight then you can cry glandular disorder, and I hope there is help for you. But that sort of person is in the minority. A TINY minority.
I HAVE SPOKEN.

Gurm that doesn't account for my nephrew who when he was young just wasn't hungry and didn't eat anything and would happily go for a week without food and he wasn't underweight.
Neither does it explain my father who was overweight in his late twenties and thirties and then suddenly lost it. Diet he didn't change it.

What's losing it got to do with being overweight anyway?DM says: Crunch with Matrox Users@ClimatePrediction.net

EXCELLENT points Gurm!
What you eat is every bit as important, if not more important than how much you eat.
For myself I have found these new Protein Power diets nothing short of amazing. But, let me tell you, the thoght of just eating steaks and sausage gets old pretty fast. Limiting your carbs has got to be one of the toughest things I have tried.
Not to poke fun, but I wanta meet the person who eats 3 celery sticks and runs a few miles a day and still gains weight. If the calories going in are less than the calories going out, then their has to be a fascinating reason how weight is still being added to ones body.Perspective cannot be taught. It must be learned.
