If what the Eastern Europeans in Boston listen to is any indication, this fact would explain things greatly.

I like Rammstein, sort of. I really like the sound, but now that I've sat down and looked at the translated lyrics, I can't listen to about 80% of the songs anymore.

Why, because the lyrics are either political or ... just plain ol' "Not as Angry As They Sound"?

I fired up BabelFish, and plugged in Sennsucht... and got back:
"I remembered laying in bed, looking into her eyes, caressing her skin... but I was ona train to africa and would never see her again... oh, the longing... oh, the sadness... oh, the pain."
It's depeche mode, only louder.

Zwitter is about a cross dresser. Ramstein (the song) is about the crash at the International Air Show in Ramstein, Germany that killed 80 some people (the club fans loved the song so much that the band added an extra M to Ramstein and named the band after teh song). Sensuct is actually about someone longing for sex after he hasn't gotten any in a long time.
The thing about running Rammstein songs through Babelfish is that they use a lot of slang in their songs. The official Rammstein page used to have English translations straight from the band, but they had taken them down last I checked.

Well, even the most famous Rammstein song is up for interpretation.
Du Hast = You have. And by itself it doesn't even mean that.
Du Hast Mich Gefragt = You have heard me, or you have heard me say/saying (something)...
We could keep interpreting it, but WAIT.
Du haSSt (notice the two s's) = You hate.
Yikes!
The band accentuates the s, and THEIR translation is:
You hate me to say, and I did(will) not obey... (or some such, they made it rhyme. *shrug*)
Yeah, it's messed up.

Du Hast is a song I really like, I find it a pretty clever take on marriage vows. Engel and some other songs are also pretty cool.
Gurm, check the lyrics for songs like Klavier. It's the homoerotic incest and such that really scares me off.
I wouldn't ever compare them to DM though. Although, Recoil is kind of right in between the two of them.

I used to really like Metallica. But after Master Of Puppets they went downhill. Came out with 2 pretty good albums with Justice and Black but I don't think I would even listen to their older stuff after that whole big sissy fit they threw over Napster and the like. They will never get a cent from my pocket and I won't waste my time downloading anything new from them. I consider if I have the album or cassette of a band, downloading a song onto my PC isn't really a copyright infringement since I had already paid them for the song.

Did Metallica ever say anything regarding downloading music that you once owned?
I used to be mad at Metallica for the whole napster thing, but then I realized how stupid I was being because YOU ARE stealing music when you download it from napster, kazaa, etc...
Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.
Well... when I really like music, I buy it after having dl'ed it. If I had millions and millions of dollars, I wouldn't ask horribly high prices for my concerts, and release one single with four different b-sides just to make more money out of it
But that's a different discussion.
Gurm: Du hast mich gefragt is "you have asked me"
The german lyrics go somethign like "Du has(s)t.. Du hasst mich... Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab' nichts gesagt" ("You have (or hate)... You hate me... You have asked me, and I have said nothing" - that's a pretty rough, unelegant, but word-for-word translation).
Some of the new Metallica songs are already floating around in the Internet. It seems they've become a bit heavier again but they're still far away from albums such as "Ride The Lightning" or "Master Of Puppets".
GNEP:
If you want to hear some really extreme metal with German lyrics (which are even more bizarre than Rammstein's lyrics), check out Totenmond - compared to these guys Rammstein sound rather tame
