i assume you are talking about rugby league, wherby when a tackle is made, the defence hold down the attacker to make sure the tackle is acknowlaged byt the other team and the ref. The attack does not want to slow play down, so he squirms on the ground to try and liberate himself.

most people dont try to hurt someone, its a direct result of what needs to be done in order to win the game.

lets say you are on defence, i have the ball, and im running at you. you are trying to stop me, so you get in my way and drop a little, ready to tackle. i up my pace, my head goes down and i run straight into you, snapping your collar bone.

am i trying to hurt you?
no, im trying to score, so i can help win the game.

its a consequence of the game, its not the aim of the game.

        why not?

the point is most players don't set out to hurt the other team. they set out to play the game, which happens to sometimes involve hurting the other team.

it is a game after all, and its pretty aim-orientated when compared to boxing or something similar.

        anyway,
i think we have a clear cut case of:
1)people who play rugby because they enjoy it
2)people who dont, and will never play rugby because it doesn't mean enough to them to get a few bruises every week.

i broke my wrist playing a month or two ago (purely accidental, well, i hope so!), and i had the plaster off today (woohoo!), but it wont stop me from playing again next season.

        is american football different?

Well the ones I watched no one was holding them down they were free to get up but chose to kick out widely before they bothered to get themselfs up in blind hope of catching someone.

When I was at school we used to play football in Doc Martens in the lunch break. If you whined when you got kicked you where a puff.

I have a rugby game in 3hours, and I'm kinda nevous
I WAS playing prop but since it hurt my back and can't stand another fat guy trying to crush me in a scrum, I told my coach to change my position to flanker or second row

Well, I wouldn't say that rugby's whole point is to hurt people, though we tend to get hurt a lot when we play aggresively and many aggresive people play them . And some people enjoy hurting opponent especially in a school team (Non pro team). . But decent players don't do it. And for me, I kinda enjoy getting hurt if I get hurt on a field. And if you play rugby, you won't be too committed in trying to hurt somebody. Because what you really wanna do is to score the tries as many as possible. Then if you win, you can make a proud face at the guys who tried to hurt you.

Oh, and nice pictures of tackling boys . I like them!!

And for Westlife, I gotta change my preference of music
            Gotta stop listening their's.
But their songs are just lovely...

                pain in rugby is good;

it stops you whining like a girl when you cut your finger or stub your toe or something. Grrr....

uh, joonie, dont play prop against men. i play prop and ive seen a guy break his neck scrummaging. bad move soldier. im not sexist, and i dont beleive a womans place is in the kitchen, but i know a womans place is not in a mens scrum.

Yeah... it's so painful in my neck...
My coach didn't let me play when I said I can't play prop.
He says "It's hard not to put you in a prop" in a British accent. (I live in Canada. Not very familiar with the accent)
I think I'm just too fat and slow to play any other poition but I'm going to keep protesting.
We lost a game on Wednesday. I want to believe that my team lost because I didn't play in it. Hope the coach can see it

In my opinion, coaches seem to put fat and slow guys (goofballs) in a prop position (at least in a school team). All the props I've seen are fat (I mean REALLY fat)and relatively slow.
                  I gotta get faster...

Well actually some of their best songs are covers of older
better sung ones.. get the originals and you would stop listening to Westlife
