You can be quarantined here in the US if your condition presents a danger to the public health.

Most of these laws are in the public health code of each State, but there are provisons under the US code for pandemics or bio-warfare incidents. A Michigan report to the CDC on preparedness says this;

The $4 million available from HRSA is for the development and implementation of regional plans and other efforts to improve the capacity of hospitals, their emergency departments, EMS systems and other collaborating health care entities to respond to incidents requiring mass immunization, treatment, isolation and quarantine in the aftermath of bioterrorism or other outbreaks of infectious disease. The funds will also be used to improve the communication between hospitals and EMS units, and local and state health departments to enhance disease reporting. This will also improve hospital and medical system capacity for nonterrorist epidemics of rare diseases.

agree with doc. Here in Toronto... some people with SARS (or suspect) refuse to quarantine themselves... so the government forced a few to quarantine for ~10 days.

A new law passed here in OZ to enable forced quarantine/arrest.

Their is a valid point that it may discorage peole form getting treatment in th first place, but I think the law is essential....you HAVE to use quarantine, it is the only sensible thing to do.

Well the Government enforced quarentee under the foot and mouth disease but when it came down to it there was no one there to enforce it. Therefore people walked down all out of bounds footpaths let there dogs/children run all over the place. They knew full well that the signs applied to them but chose to ignore it. I'm pretty sure the same would happen under Sars here.
