  • To hell in a handbasket....

No wonder Gurm calls Pennsylvania the 5th layer of hell and is trying to get the hell out so damn fast:

A 14-year-old student shot and fatally wounded his principal before killing himself in front of students in the school cafeteria, police and school officials said Thursday.

The shootings occurred at 7:34 a.m. at Red Lion Area Junior High School, southeast of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Principal Eugene Segro was pronounced dead at York Hospital.
You just know this is going to spark a whole new wave of school shootings. It always does...

    Stupid damn kids.

That's a shame. People need to learn how to raise their kids.

I DON'T want to start a new argument, but this wouldn't happen so easily if people weren't allowed to own guns without a reason.

That said, the reasons for that lie somewhere else. And it's really sad. Why can't they just jump from a high building or something?

Knives too, they should require special permits. And boards with nails in them. Hmm... better add fists, feet, rocks; And for Christs sake, whatever we do, be damn sure not to blame the people who let the kid develop a homicidal personality without thinking anything bad might happen.

I wonder if they are going to blame Doom and Quake this time too

It's a lot easier than asking you to look back and ask yourself "was I a good mother/father?"
Not to mention a lot more profitable during next local elections...

I believe it was Mark Twain who said "there is nothing so annoying as a good example"

it seems concerning copy cats with these school shootings that there is nothing so annoying or deadly as a bad example...get ready for the next one...

I suppose on the bright side he only took out 1 person instead of several like many others, none the less sad though...

Jon, please don't let us drag this down - sorry that I started it. Of course, the parents are the ones to blame - still, fists, even knifes and board with nails in them make it a lot harder to kill someone easily, and are a lot easier to defend against.

Let's face it, even if we could take away guns, people would find other way. Drive by bow-and-arrow shootings. Battle axe turf wars...

You're right of course, but so am I

No problem Jon, I was the one who started it against better knowledge.

Too late. You are living under a rock if you think that he could not get a gun whenever he wanted. It's not hard to get anything illegal if you want it bad enough.

Of course it is easy to get a weapon on the black market. Still it's more of a hassle than just going into the cellar and picking up father's gun - and requires a little more planning or at least effort, so it'll give a kid time to "cool down". And more private legal guns translates into more material for the black market.

Still, the parents are of course the most important factor. The question is though, what's wrong with society as a whole if things like that happen that often (and I believe the answer's not as simple as "there are too many stupid people")?

If I was wanting to buy a gun, I wouldn't know where to go - other than the US.

IIRC the law specifies how guns should be stored.

I think the guns are not a problem:
                              - plenty of people own guns in Switzerland and Canada, but there are less such cases.

I'd say the problem is with society and priorities.

That said, if I owned a gun, I'd likely have it stored in a safe at shooting range.

BTW, does legislation specify how guns should be stored in USA?

Pace: I saw a few nice gun-shops in Paris.
