although they look like a part of the mouth, this part is not .. yes it is an animal of sorts

so what kind of animal would this be?

I have no idea what beetle it is, but it is huge. I was given it as a present when I was in Panama back in 2001.. it is sitting on top of my monitor now

On the grounds of St Peter's, I'll offer this one, which I think may be quite tricky. I have enhanced the contrast slightly to give a better idea of the texture.

Edit: Clue, it is vegetable but does not belong to the cabbage/cauliflower family.
