  • What a day.

Nice cushy morning installed Win98 and Red Hat 9 on one my computers in the office. Noticed the first odd quirk under Red Hat when I decided to check the network card settings. It decides you don't have a network card installed if you haven't logged on as root. Unless it was being silly which is more likely. Anyway I didn't have time too look at it further. It was a case of boot it up and have a quick look at the desktop then off too lunch.

Afternoon down to one of the open access areas. Would have been nice and easy if the colour printing was working but no it wasn't and it was deadline day.
The students suddenly found if they sent a selection of pages it just ignored it and sent what it liked. Full print out jobs just lost whole sections or random pages. The printers themself kept on stopping ever so often. The printing system control software seemed at times to be behind what was actualy printed out.
So we must have refunded students loads of dosh but at least we didn't get shouted at. Nothing like having ten students complaining about missing printouts.
