Cool. I haven't seen the trailer for the new film yet.. I was analyzing the old one. But if the filmmakers have addressed their original inequity, good for them.

Just my humble opinion, but doesn't the fact that you noticed the races of the various actors make you racist yourself? Who the hell cares what colour skin each of them have? They're all damn fine actors, and that's all that really matters in the end.

By the way, I just got home from seeing Reloaded. Damn fine flick, with more damn fine actors. That's the end of my damn fine post...

...and when does the next one come out? November? Can't wait. This one has a very annoying ending, leaves you wanting more to say the least.

No, it just makes me observant. By that definition, almost anyone would be a racist.

He has a point Kv, I don't notice what colour of skin the actors have. Unless I'm supposed to know of course.

I just saw the first movie (partly) yesterday. There were other good-characters that aren't black or hispanic (e.g. there was another woman besides Trinity, but she was killed when the traiter in the ship pulled the plug). In that very same scene, there were some other white good guys.

I'm with TdB here (thinking it is case B) : " I live in a society where it just doesn´t matter, because nobody cares about race in movies, where the theme of the movie doesn´t have anything to do with racism."

But perhaps I'm naive in this...

Everything matters. Deny this and you deny reality.

I'm not denying it, but does everything has to have a hidden agenda ? (rhetorical question...) It just sounds bit like back in highschool, when poems and/or paintings were analysed. Could it not be that they were written or painted just because it sounded/looked good, without having a deeper meaning...?

I covered this. I don't know if the construct was intentional or not. It doesn't matter.. the effect is what matters.

I'm a bit unclear: what is the effect ? I haven't read/heard anything about this casting (intentional or not) in press here, nor has anyone even mentioned it... Could it then be that here in Belgium the race of the actors is considered unimportant ? Or do you think it works more on a per-individual subconcious level ?

Do you really think no reality exists other than what is reported by the media? That's frightening.. :shivers:

Could it then be that here in Belgium the race of the actors is considered unimportant?
Is this some dictum? A dogma you are afraid of going against? I did nothing here but make an observation. You seem to be worried that the political correctness stormtroopers will come and get you if you dare to not deny what your eyes see.

I think this works on a per-individual subconscious level, yes. Every image you see, whether it is part of reality or part of the reality created by a film, has an effect upon how you perceive the world. Deny it if you think society requires this of you, but you are being cowards if you do. The effect is more pronounced upon those who do not think a lot.. it strikes purely at the emotions, and those who are driven by their emotions are most likely to be affected by it, but everyone is affected by it, whether you live in Belgium or Sweden or the Bronx. People who see this movie will see blonde white men in suits with a bit more trepidation than before, while the nonwhite "good guys" will be seen as less cold, more alive. Think about this the next time you are alone with no woman and you see a black guy with a girl. You might just be seeing the effect I am talking about first hand.
