makes sense, there are rumours that the taste of sweetness already causes increased insuline-production, which would led to hypoglycemia. you kind of confuse your body.
btw, Acesulfam K (as it is usually called here) is believed to be safe, although one has to be careful: so far all studies regarding this topic were conducted by the producing company itself...
did you know that these sweeteners are (allowed to be) used when battening (sp?) pigs? they usually increase the appetite. diet-coke, anyone?

"Really? I didn't know they did that."
"Oh yes, red means help!"
It should be easy to prove the danger of aspartane and other "artificial" sweeteners... dilute it with water until you have a homeopathic solution of it, and drink it. If it's hazardous, you should fall over dead instantly!
Julie's senior thesis was on Aspartame. It's a subject near and dear to us because she is violently reactive to it.
It's possible that she lacks one copy of the gene that, when you lack both copies, causes phenylketoneuria. Whatever the reason, shortly after drinking/eating anything with aspartame in it, she gets violent headaches, lack of coordination... basically her entire brain processes shit the bed.
Many sites go overboard, but basically aspartame F***S with your brain chemistry.
MANY people that we know have had migraines that were at least in part caused by aspartame.
And it CAN cause mental retardation in kids, even a small amount like a can or two of diet soda a day, or a couple glasses of Kool-Aid with nutrasweet.
Logan has likely inherited Julie's reactivity to this drug, and thus as soon as he is old enough we'll teach him to stay away from "diet" anything.
I don't get headaches, but it DOES make me feel gross. Much the same way that an extra-value meal at McDonalds makes you feel gross in your stomach, nutrasweet makes you feel gross in your brain.

If only life were as easy as you
I would still get screwed

I think no one, especially kids, should drink that amount of cola etc. anyway.
Well, I had hardly any aspartame in the last week (maybe amounting to one can of Diet Coke) and I have to say I feel better already.
I changed to drinking Tea or water. Despite quite a few late nights over the weekend, and associated wine and beer consumption, I can definitely say that I feel more alert and healthy, and people have commented that I look it too.
I am suffering some new joint pains though, but that could be due to the increase in the weight of loose change in my pockets as I am spending less
