az - they're meaningless tests meant to show your scholastic abilites.
a bragging place for some that like to pretend they're geniouses. And then there's the rest of us

It's a multiple-choice test in the areas of English and Mathematics.
It measures knowledge which SHOULD be obtained by the AVERAGE student in the course of the first 10-11 years of their education.
Sadly, since American schools don't teach people anything anymore, and since more and more people think like Muad'dib, they have been dumbed down to the point where they are meaningless.
We don't BRAG, Muad'dib. We revel in the fact that, unlike so much of the population, we got a good education.

Kiss my ass. It was meaningless long before I ever took it. It's a test that measures what someone is supposed to have learned in high school and is supposed to predict how well someone will do in their post-high school education. It doesn't do either one well.
And don't classify the way I think unless you know me.

Didn't learn for it at all (nor for school, either ) and had to be in the basement until 3 or 4 in the morning because of a thunderstorm with tornado warning. I was really, really tired whilie taking the test, and I managed to get 1300 or 1400
might have been an PSAT, dont know what that stands for. Everyone was really impressed, and afterwards I even found some answers that were just stupid concentration mistakes I made.
No offense, but the german education, while it still sucks, kicks the american school systems butt I never did very well in germany, either (but not too bad )
I konw a lot of people here who went trough the same thing.
Yes, the American Education system most definately does suck.
At least in the lower education aspects. There are some pretty decent graduate programs though.

Sorry, they're actually tests that you take before you graduate high school. They're supposed to show what you've learned in high school and predict how you will do in college. I'm not sure if this is a required test in Canada.

There are other tests, but they are subject specific as far as I know. For example, the BAR test for law and the comprehensive board exams for medical.... On the other hand, I think if you go into something like marketing or management I don't think you have to take any post-graduate exams - I could be wrong though. Someone lemme know if I'm missing any of the major ones.
Yes Admiral, I moved from LA to Chicago about 8-9 months ago for grad school. Before grad. school I used to like the topic and now I can't stand it. Hopefully that will change again. Preferably some point before my 3 more years are up.

There are GRE's (Graduate Record Exams, to get into Graduate School), and some schools of course have their own entrance and/or placement examinations.
Muad'dib, I don't mean to be TOO offensive. But let's face it - if you had obtained the correct mix of knowledge in the course of grades 1-11, you would have done rather well on the SAT's, unless you are the kind of person that just freezes up for tests.
I'm extremely lucky because my parents FORCED the school system to give me a good education, long before I was capable of exercising any forcefulness myself.
I don't presume to know how you think, but since you have stated that the SAT is worthless, I'll go out on a limb and say that's how you feel... unless you're lying or baiting us.
And they ARE NOT worthless. The educational system that spawned the changes to them, and that is now proposing abandoning them due to their "irrelevance", IS worthless.

IIRC in Canada, you do not have to take SAT to go into university/collage. However, if Canadian students want to receive post secondary education in U.S., he/she has to take it.

That'd be me, although I did fairly well on the SAT's actually.
