  • Ah-nold, the gov-ah-ner?

Being the old school Ah-nold Schwarzenegger action movie buff, I can't resist reading articles about the Austrian born muscle man turned actor:

For those unaware, Arnold is an extremely political right-wing Republican. Rumors have been soaring lately that he will run for California governor.

Just out of plain curiousuty, what do the US MURCers think about it?

I think he could pull it off, he's got the name recognition, and with the right staff he could be a great governor. An interesting one since CA is primarily a Democrate/Liberal state, but if he were to win an election and do an outstnading job at it, the Republicans could take control of one of the most influencial states in the US.

Well the way that Gray Davis is pissing off everyone in CA its a very good possibly of it happening. Hell if I was in CA I would vote for him. Rather have someone thats not a career politician running the government
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

Yup...I think if they get enough signatures for a recall Davis is history.

What's a bit strange, but we do have to remember we're talking about Callifornia here , is that on the same ballot will be a list of those wanting to replace Davis as Governor. The one with the highest total gets the job, which means anything's possible....especially if there is a lot of people on said ballot.

This is an election even Soupy Sales could win

That said: anyone who takes Arnold Schwarzenegger for granted politically is a fool. His sucessful bi-partisan effort towards educational reform made him a lot of friends in California...in both parties.

Arnold is a genuinely great guy.

How he manages to sleep at night without squishing Maria Shriver is another question entirely, since she is TINY.

TINY isn't the word. Anorexic is closer

That said I actually met him once back when he was on Bush-1's fitness council. On one of his tours he came to visit an oganization I was involved in. He was very gracious to the "troops" and also very real....which is *highly* unusual in celebrities of his caliber.

The kids just loved him and he really gave the kids the impression that the feelings were mutual...and I have no doubt they were.

The guy is a natural candidate.

                  Flashback to 1994's "Demolition Man":

Huxley: "Well, we can Access the Schwarzenegger Presidential Library Database"

                  Spartan: "The What?"

                  Huxley: ?

                  Spartan: "Arnold Schwarzenegger was President!?"

Huxley: "Oh yes, his popularity led to the passage of the 57th. Amendment of the Constitution, which allows naturalized citizens to hold the office of President."

Yeah but he could be a Veep, I _think_.

                    Or a senator.

Now THAT would be something. Arnold as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee...
