I can't help but think about some of the teachers I had in school having a firearm -- just not a good idea. In fact, some of the ones I would worry most about could very well, and easily, passed the training courses in order to obtain one.

There are just too many variables for this to be a good idea.

Unless it became really common, I don't think it would prevent anything.
At least here in Oklahoma, I think it is a felony to tell someone you are carrying, or to show them your gun.
It is assumed to be a threat.
So the thugs should not know who is carrying.
The thing is, those kids are so used to being around armed people, I doubt that the mere possibility of a teacher packing would be a deterrent.

Having been through Jordan School district, I would have to say I like this idea. The teachers put up with alot, and this would possible make the kids think twice before pulling some of the stupid shit that they do. Some of the schools have such a gang problem, that I would agree with armed teachers.

Would it not be better to start removing guns from the population? 'Right to bear arms' should be ancient history.

If they are worried about another school shooting, how about metal detectors and searches for guns, instead of bringing in more.. seems like the wrong approach.

Correct me if I am wrong, but arent teachers there to educate and lead by some sort of example?

What sort of world do we have when the teacher is packing?

what about those teachers who choose not to carry a weapon? do they then become targes in their own right, especially if there is some form of Comimbine? the questions then asked are 'why didnt Miss Smith not take him out?'

surely its not the job of a teacher to be the body guard of the class.

If a student were to pull a knife of a classmate, would it be ok for the teacher to kill him or her? it wouldnt be self defense as the perp was not threatening the teacher.... What would it be? What if he/sh missed and killed her 'a' grade student being threatened/bystanding?

its a bloody stupid idea, in my opinion

The right to bear arms is surely a public right in the states, but there is nothing in the constitution about the right to bear CONCEALED arms - that I have a real problem with..... metal detectors are the way!

Gun restriction laws are a great idea, on paper. But, the thugs in gangs, do not have registered weapons. Gun control laws do not bother them at all, it only affects those that use them responsibly.

But all thugs who go to school would be stripped of their gun on their way into the school if they pass through metal detectors, hence at least keeping guns out of schools.. the streets is a whole different story..

We have speed cameras - why not random metal/gun detectors on the street too?

Its not a breach of your civil liberties if you have an opertunity to present a permit for the weapon before you are scaned....

                          Fat Tone,

Don't start. Many of us feel that you can take our guns away... when you pry them from our cold, dead fingers.

And that's not just a cliche. It's true, and it's how a lot of Americans feel.

I don't like the situation in Europe. If someone breaks into your home, and the cops don't get there in time, you're just ****ed.

Criminals all have guns, and crime is rampant.

So don't get started on this, ok? You WILL lose the argument.

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
                          I would still get screwed

Ok smart guy, so why is the violent crime rate so much higher here than in countries with fewer privately held firearms?

Trouble is Gurm, that is exactly how it happens, all too often.

Many times people have talked guns on here, and I've kept my mouth shut because I know how strong American feeling is about having them, but Schools? SCHOOLS? Give me a break.

Burglar breaks in, I don't have a gun, he doesn't have a gun, I lose some stuff, I get it back on the insurance; burglar breaks in, I have a gun, he has a gun...ain't no insurance gonna help that situation much, except for the medical bills or funeral expenses.

I'm sure you have a high intellect Gurm, and we all know you like to flex it, but please, don't insult me.
