would you pay someone else to pay EQ for you?

this is almost an arguement between me and a friend of mine. he plays EverQuest religously, and i hate the game.

anyway.. would you (you being people who play everquest) be willing to pay someone else to play for you, for whatever reason.. a raid.. exp.. better equipment (in particular no drop stuff).. anything.

i can't fathom the possiblilty of paying someone else to play a game for me, but he seems to believe that there are people out there. now after hearing some of his stories i'm beginning to believe him.

i'm just looking for feedback really.. not necessarily if you personnally would do this, but if you would then what kind of things would you want them to do for you? and for how much?

Well, I wouldn't play Evercrack at all. Too many people are too obsessed. Hell, someone even got married at one point. I was addicted to DiabloI/Hellfire and Diablo II with expansion pack for a while but I was able to break that habit.

Personally playing any MMORPG I would want to play the game for the mental as well as the digital experience as I would then understand the game better and better be able to deal with the new challenges. These are probably the same people that pay for a created character or hack one. They do not want to play the game. They want the ego trip of having a better character than someone else.

I play D2 LOD online (europe).. on and off, it is a love hate relationship .
One of my friends had actually played for someone else for a short period of time. Basically just making sure none of his properties are stolen. They were neighbours in EQ for a long time and he trusted my friend. The guy had been posted overseas by his company for a project and he would not have any time for EQ. My friend was paid handsomely but i find that a bit overboard that a person can be so obsessed with a game.

Being a recovered Evercrack addict, I can see someone who is seriously 'involved' and addicted to playing Neversleep paying someone else to help level up their charcater. I mean, come on, they're already paying over $120 USD a year just to have the right to play the game. Not including the price for the yearly 'upgrade' pack that costs an additional $20-$30 USD.

Evercrackers will do anything to get their characters leveled up and get certain items. I remember when Evercrack first came out. People were selling EQ characters for THOUSANDS of dollars on eBay! A single rare item could sell for $500 USD in REAL money on eBay. It's INSANE!!!

This is why I have forever sworn off pay-to-play games. Not even Star Wars: Galaxies or World of Warcraft will break me.

I am not sure I would say I was addicted to EQ, but I did play A LOT right off the bat; and I can honestly say I don't see why anyone would pay someone else to play for them.

After a year of playing, to which I did more playing than sitting around leveling, I got to a respectable level and was looking for something to do. I found out that the only thing to do at higher levels, until you get insanely high that is, is to wait in virtual lines to get in a group that was sitting in the same spot waiting for things to appear on a regular schedule. Playing smart is one thing, but waiting your turn (possibly for hours) so that you can sit on your butt, waiting to kill something you already know you can beat as you have killed him 100 times previously ... that was the last straw. A week later, I had given up all my "belongings" and cancelled my account.

Where is the fun in a game that you always know you can win? Give me a challenging game anyday.

oh, and Jamm; when did this new revelation of never playing another MMORPG come from? Last I knew, you were possibly going to check out SW with a few of us, and definately going to join me and play WoW. Next thing you will tell me you are going to drive your wife's Saturn and go all soft.

I've never really liked MMORPGs that much, because of what skratch mentioned above. I do however play on a MUD (multi-user-dunngeon). Ansii/text based game... found it a lot more challanging than the silly mmorpgs and more fun because there are less people to hog things.

Much the same reason I stopped playing Diablo 2.
After finishing it its not funny anymore since its basicly the same thing over andf over

I played Ultima Online when it first came out, was alot of fun, until the Player Killers took over. Then I tried Dark Age of Camelot, was a great game, and had alot of fun with it, until I moved and lost my High Speed internet. Have high speed again, but have not gotten back into it. WoW? will have to see how much time I have, as they do suck time like crazy.

I played UO once, when it took me an hour to kill 1 rabbit ("That's no ordinary rabbit!"), that was enough of that.

Paying someone in real money for playing YOUR character is just plain stupid - you play for fun, right? Everybody who doesn't play for fun, but only for levels, has a serious problem and should seek psychological advice, IMHO. Paying someone in virtual money for keeping your account alive while you can't is another thing, of course, but a real friend would do that for free anyway.

anyway.. judging from the poll i'd have to say that no one in their right mind would pay for someone else to play EQ for them. although it is interesting that some of you know there are people out there crazy enough to porbably do this.. now if only i can find out where they hang out .

I was going to look into it, but then they announced the pricing model and there's no chance of that now. I'm not going to drop $200 to play a game for a year.

As for WoW ... I don't know. That's a wait and see at best. With the rising costs of MMORPG's, and the sick taste of Evercrack still on the tongue, it just doesn't look good to me any more. WoW would be the only one that could potentially bring me back to the dark side.

I think if you don't fall to the dark side and become a power gamer, and as long as you don't make too many friends in the game or join a guild, it's ok.

I don't care if I'm only level 12 after a year, as long as it's been fun.
