I remember back in '93 when living in NC there was a young couple charged with manslaughter for the death of their 6 week old baby... we had a cold snap at the time and so to keep the child warm the (20 year old) parents decided to place a hairdrier in the bassenette and turned it up on high. They discovered it cooked the infants brain the next morning after commenting that they had a wonderfully peaceful nights sleep for a change and were curious as to why the baby hadn't fussed at all.
Later the police dropped the charges because of the extreme grief the couple experienced at the loss of their child and it would be a tragedy to hold them additionally accountable.

That story is just disgusting. Surely any dumb idiot knows how hot it gets in a car (I bet she wouldn't leave a dog in there). And the bit about *somebody, maybe her husband* taking them out is preposterous. And 5 hours? the whole thing stinks of murder. She should rot in prison.

Remember years ago someone at work was telling me that they say a baby locked in a car in the full sun screaming like mad.
The tempature outside was 90+ at the time. They found a copper who was about to break in when the stupid women turned up.
The women then bollocked the copper for trying to break in.

Two similar cases here in Spain.
A couple left their baby on the beach car park while they went to swim and enjoy the sun. Some hours later a guy broke the car window 'cos he heard the baby crying really loud of the sunburns.
The couple was arrested but they said that it was a normal behaviour, they've done it before, and they were able to check the baby from where they were
The baby is ok now, just some burns caused by the sun.
Another one, this more tragic. The husband would take every morning his wife to her work and his baby to the kindergarden afterwards, then he'll go to work. One day he left the wife at work but forgot about the baby, he went to work normally and when he finished work the baby had died in the car
I don't know if they should go to jail but they shouldn't be allowed to have children

A tragedy of a different dimension was reported in today's local newspaper:
NEWS Parents drown as daughter looks on from beach
A Scottish father died during a heroic attempt to save his wife and son whose small rubber dinghy capsized in choppy seas off the coast of Paphos on Tuesday.
Tourist Peter Rainey, 49, died trying to rescue his wife Alison, 41, who also drowned in the seas close to the shore off Peyia beach.
The helicopter test pilot managed to get the dinghy upright and dragged his wife and son back on board, joining them as they tried to get back to dry land. However, the rough seas and strong undercurrent rendered this an impossible task and the inflatable capsized again, claiming two lives.
But Mr Rainey’s efforts were not in vain, his son Callum survived the ordeal after horrified onlookers swam out to save the boy. By the time the parents were brought back to shore it was already too late.
The couple, from Dollar, Clackmannanshire, were on holiday with their two young children in Peyia, where they rented a villa with another family.
The two orphaned children, aged 7 and 9, received treatment for shock and psychological counselling after seeing their parents drown on what had been a typical family holiday outing.
Catriona, the girl, was taken care of by family friends sharing the villa. The orphaned children have now been flown back to Scotland to be reunited with their grandparents.
The mother, along with her nine-year-old son, took the small inflatable craft out to sea while the daughterstayed behind on shore with her father, police said.
When the dinghy overturned Peter Rainey braved the waves to rescue his family.
The tragedy occurred at around 11.30am but the couple were already confirmed dead at 12.20pm after being pulled out the sea, said Peyia police.
An ambulance arrived at the scene and the boy recovered consciousness after receiving first aid.
His parents were officially pronounced dead on arrival at Paphos General Hospital where the boy, admitted into intensive care as a precaution, made a quick recovery.
Too dangerous
Some unconfirmed reports suggested that the family were told not to go out to sea in their rubber dinghy because it was too dangerous.
There were lifeguards on duty at the time of the accident at Ayios Georgios beach, Peyia, a popular resort spot with British tourists, police said.
When the dinghy capsized 100 metres from the shore near some rocks, a fishing boat manned by fellow bathers went out to help rescue the family.
A marine police patrol boat was unable to reach the scene due to the choppy seas and a helicopter was called in to help with the rescue but the three were already rescued before air support could reach the scene.
Peter Rainey was a Royal Navy pilot and Falklands war veteran who was taking a break with his family from running a successful business in training pilots to fly with night-vision goggles.
The sports-loving family were described as keen on outdoor activities who had a deep Christian faith. The close community of Dollar, near Stirling, expressed its “shock and devastation” at the tragedy.
Three Scottish tourists drowned further up the Paphos coast in 1994 after ignoring warning signs about rough seas.Brian (the devil incarnate)

Well sadly he'll be able to practise his faith directly to God.
Another one of these who believe warnings and dangers don't apply to them.

Okay ... this lady runs a day care center and she left 2 kids in the car at 38 C (~100 F)? I think the proper punishment for her would be to put her in a car in death valley for 5 hours and she how she does.
