  • a little music help

Seeing as how I have always used the term "techno" to cover a wide range of music -- all of that sort in fact. Seeing as how the thread where ppl were suggesting techno bands/artists which I was going to respond to, could someone describe the different between techno, trance, breakbeat, and any and all other of the kind. Or even better give some good examples of groups from each. It has been a long while since I bought a CD that wasn't kids music and I was feeling like I needed to pump up the volume on something other than "Pop goes the Weasel"

    Thanx

Buckaroo, the President's on line 1, calling about is everything okay with the alien space bomb and Planet Ten, or should we just go ahead and destroy Russia?

Tell him yes on one and no on two.

Which was yes? The destroy Russia, or the, uh, number two?

Well, the differences really boil down to what kind of drugs you have to take in order to tolerate any of them for more than 30 seconds.

Someday soon I expect to see your kid on the news, talking about how he ran away from home because he couldn't take any more of the verbal assaults of "Your finger painting sucks! The color orange is the worst color you could have used! Why don't you use a brush?!?"

I am thinking the only drugs needed in this situation are the blood pressure pills you need just so that the 99% of the world that you don't agree with doesn't overload and kill you. I mean, really, if you don't have the knowledge to help, why even take the time to respond if the style of music I am asking about is not to your liking?

Now I know why you don't like sports: They wouldn't let you change the rules for everyone else -- "Penalty?!? But I only touched the soccer ball with my hands! That shouldn't be against the rules. This game sucks!"

Your lack of tolerance astounds me; and your need to comment on everything that you dislike boggles the mind.

Gurm, you know you're setting yourself to have a kid that will love listening to the most repetative rap and techno music he can find.

No, not really. Kids inherit their likes and dislikes via osmosis from the parents. If a parent never ever watches sports, the kid just won't be into sports. Parents who read all the time have kids who enjoy reading. It's a proven fact.

And you know... while we're on the topic...

I would actually have helped if a primer hadn't already been posted (see Rakido's post above). But he had already provided about the most concise answer you needed, so I decided to be sardonic instead.

                Oh, heavens!

Besides, we've had this discussion before. This sort of sound often fails to fulfill the requirements for being termed "music" (it has a tendency to lack a distinct and/or cohesive melody, or else that melody is repeated ad infinitum/ad nauseum).

I like some rap. I like some "dance" (TATU comes to mind, although it's certainly far from pure techno). But I don't call it music.

To a point. I know a lot of kids that come from 'sports families' that never partcipate in sports, and vice versa. The friends a kid associates with will have a lot of impact on their decision making as well.

And as for the teen age years. Expect lots of loud ghetto rap and house techno, strictly because you don't like it

Since when did you ever do anything sarcastic?

Skratch has been around for a while. Too long, if he's started in on Trance.

Are you saying old ppl like trance? cause I just can't picture my dad listening to anything involving a synthesizer. He would probably run in fear, or grab the sledge just inside the garage, shouting "Die you evil martian spawn!", but at least he would get rid of that 20-year-old, wood-panel speakers and stereo to match.

Ok, this just proves I need some sleep.

Actually Trance, as dictated by Rakido's link (Thanx for that, btw, Rakido) is a bit slow for me. Maybe it's just me, but trance kinda has a NyQuil effect on me.

As for "starting in on trance", I began listening to "techno" when depeche mode got too lite for me. Nothing as repetative as Confusion (Pump Panel Recons. Mix), although I do like that song for the occasional mind-numbing.

But Gurm is right: I am the lurker, he is the troll
