An Italian family was having severe pain and vomiting about 4 am and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland. On interrogation it transpires that Poppa collected some mushrooms the previous afternoon. Stomach-pumping all five persons, analyses revealed amanita phalloides. The family was stuffed full of activated charcoal and kept in for observation for a few hours with a flea in their ear to have their mushrooms checked before cooking them.
Much to the surprise of the staff, the same family was re-admitted in the early hours of the following morning, with the same symptoms. There had been some fricasee left over and Momma decided it was so delicious, she would filter out all the mushrooms and use the sauce as a garnish for the meat for their evening meal. Unfortunately, one of them died with the second dose.
