De Beers has been on the Department of Justice $#!% list for a long while. If any of the De Beer family comes to the US, or any ranking officer in their diamond monpoly, they would be immediately arrested. Thus the De Beers still live and souly operate out of Europe.

They also said they can make up to 3 carat stones at a price of about $5 per carat. Hopefully they'll be on the market before I get engaged
I would only get such a ring if 1) the fiancee knew and didn't mind or 2) if you really like pain.

Well, most women, if you have been married for a few years, are more practical about things.. at least if you are not filthy rich and she's still with you. Her question would likely be "If you could afford this, why are we still driving around in that 1966 Dodge Dart?"

Bleh, who cares about diamonds for jewlery anyway... their popularity is due in large amount to aggressive marketing by De Beers (nice article about the issue.) IMHO emeralds and rubies look much more "pretty" anyway.

            Because it's a classic!

I was thinkin more along the lines of a Gremlin or a Pacer.. . but even those... suppose it would now be a Chrysler K car

with regard to the title of this thread : I am not going to sell away my diamonds.. only got a couple of very tiny ones and they are more of sentimental value than anything else.

In fact it might be a good idea to buy some (if really needed but i am not going to buy) when they will drop (there should be a slight drop) before De Beers start their advert campaign to push up the prices.

As for me i will be looking forward to the AMD matched Quad-100GHz CPUs running at a cool 35degC

0.2 micron transistor at 89 GHz is not bad for an experimnetal stage..
