Well, I don't hate America, I just don't like most of your leaders, whom might not be all too different than the politicians in other countries just that their actions influence not only your destinies but mine and of people from around the world as well. It's one thing to have a stupid president here but to be doubled by one at the White House too ?!
Well we do try to do the best with what is presented to us. I wish they would have a catergory on the ballot as "None Of The Above".

I still love my country. I still think this is the greatest place in the world to live in bar none. No yanker, err I mean yankee, is going to convince me otherwise.
Wow! If I was to say something like that I would be accused of lacking common sense, having too much pride or being greedy. I'd probably also be called a name calling racist too.

Saying you love your country is fine. Saying your country is better than everyone elses is different, arrogrant, narcissistic (sp?), etc. And if you took offense to what I said, notice the smileys.

          I'm not. I did. I guess you didn't.

          And that is not...

Saying your country is better than everyone elses
Just because you didn't say the actual words doesn't mean that the meaning is not seen there by someone else reading your words.

Whoa, guys, I didn't mean for this to become a flame-fest! Chill, eh?

I just posted it because it's such a rare thing. Not that it's an American saying nice things about Canada, but because it's an American saying anything about Canada. Sometimes we get the feeling that you don't even know we're up here. It's nice to get confirmation once in a while that other countries know we exist.

I think it was John Stewart (comedian, Daily Show guy) that said the following (paraphrasing):

Canadians are always asking me what Americans think of them. The answer is simple. We don't.
Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox

No flaming going on here. Just discussion.

Joel: what I meant was saying your country is the greatest is fine, but saying "my country is better than yours" is insulting, and deserves flaming. I'm not saying YOU said that, but a lot of Americans come across that way, and it pisses people off. If they just said "we love America", not many people would have a beef.

Well, Joel, in response to your earlier comment about not hightailing it out of here...well, assuming I can find work in my field upon finishing school in Canada, you can very well assume I'll move...
