Generally families buy it as 2nd (her) car or parents buy them for kids or single people buy them.

People don't commute over as long distances as in USA here.

Don't know about other countries, but at 1.6L engine taxes go higher, at 2.0 even higher and 2.5 which is normal in USA is very rare here.

Diesel -
Good in Europe, except the UK!
Deisel cars have bigger engine (despite the same performance) and often turbo, so road tax and insurance is much much higher. And that desel is not that much cheaper than unleaded in the UK either.

Polo -
Nice car, elder brother version of Lupo. But Polo before 2000 is not cutie at all and 2000+ models are still expensive on the 2nd hand market I will keeping looking though! What about Golf?

They are not cars only available to Europe, they are cars only NOT available to America!
In America you guys have bigger longer straight roads and average traveling distance is higher. Not to mention your fuel price is at least 3/4 cheaper!!!!!!!
The rest of the world welcomes small cars.

BMW Mini -
I always dislike the BMW Mini... If I am to get a mini, I'd go for the classic Mini Coopers, where they are a cult icon and the new BMW Minis are just normal European small cars.

Focus -
Very nice car it is When I was learning to drive with a Focus Zetec 1.6, I was very amazed at the handling and the forgiveness of it. No wonder they choose it as "learner's car".
The Focus RS is of course godly!!!!! Except the tailgate spoiler.
