Man, that was more ... boring than the begining of Matrix Reloaded.

I know, but the tree-huggers among us will probably love it.

I think it's cool. It tells an important and all too real story, and it shows the frightening resemblance of the REAL animal farming we do and the fictional human farming in The Matrix - and the humans in the Matrix are even given the mercy of the illusion of being in a better world.

I'm not against eating meat, but I am against this inhumne cruelty.

Well the reality I know is closer to the "inside" of the meatrix than their portrayal of the "outside"... there may be some nice ideas behind the making of the meatrix, but I'm afraid it just comes across as pure propaganda BS and hence does more harm to the cause aiming towards "good" farming practices than helping it... (IMHO )

The reality I know is much like the "outside" - sure, some small farms are like the "inside", but those are the minority, and most of the time not very profitable (ie. their days are numbered), safe for a few "bio" farms.

                Scarily onesided.

But off course, also a lot of truth.

They DID forget to mention the effects of genetic enginering tho.

As a biologist, I have way to much information, to not be affected.
I only eat ecological food, if at all posible.
Better animal welfare, no artificial nutrients/fertilizers, no added antibiotics, no genetically modified food.

It DOES require almost 3 times as much land as the most intense machine farms, witch makes it a luxury, when considering the whole "feed the poor of the world" situation.
This doesnt really concern me tho. The poor are usually some dumb ****oles anyhow - and people are wastly in the surplus on this globe.

                Let the flaming begin.

Sorry, but I don't find that all too funny.
                  Think about Africa for example.

                    Have you ever been there??

Have you seen how the "natives" have completedly shattered the ecosystem of the Sahel area? Mostly by being lazy and neglient?

Im certain this is a flaw originating in their culture (originally nomadic).

They are NOT to stupid to realise, that what they do is wrong and bad for them. They just do it anyway.

No 2 cents for me, thats for sure. Africa is MUCH better of without most of the africans (which admittedly can be said for most continents).

As for stupid poor people around the globe; when has a stupid poor man/woman ever invited you in for a quick spin in their sportscar? Or their luxury yacht?
Point proven. Rich intelligent people are much more pleasant to be around.

While I agree with the first part of DukeP's first post, I absolutely cannot agree with the second part. Many (most) poor people are poor because of circumstances they cannot influence.

The "requiring 3x as much land" argument still is moot, though, because we STILL throw surplus food away instead of giving it to poor people (and yes, I know shipping food to africa does not address the fundamental problems there), even though we have more than enough. Besides, most people (me included) eat too much meat for their own health anyway.

                        I was just goading on..

I DO still feel that theres way too many people on this planet. I find 50 million to be enough to offer variety.

looking practically at this, its MUCH easier to let the 50million riches people survive - since the richest people tend to be the best armed.....
(and no, Im i no way certain that I would be one of the 50 milion richest people).

                          Screw Africa.

There are poor in our own corners of the world who are more deserving than the rich, but that is because values in our society are so screwed up. In no decent society could some stupid lowlife basketball player make 1000 times what many high school teachers and clergymen do. The Africans who breed like roaches even though they can't feed themselves? Let them learn the hard way. We did.

I'd rather have the 50 million FITTEST people surcice, or the 50 million most intelligent, or the 49,999,999 most beautiful women and me, or a healthy mixture of all people (for genetical diversity). But how would you ensure they do less well than we have done so far, and are not at 6 billion again in a few thousand years? Etc. etc.

Of course the sheer mass of humans right now is more than the planet and most humans can bear, still what you said makes me furious. Really I don't know if what you wrote here or what KvH writes regularly is worse.
