Passau is a very nice city indeed, at least in sommer. You shall visit it if you have time.

You know the one that was built in second part of the 80s and in 80s and early 90s action movies is always driven by the bad guys..

I was already planning to do it, it all depends on the time schedule and if I'm alone or with some kind of female being.

The first priority is to arrive at the treffen before the night, because I don't want to set up the camp with the dark - and it would be too stressfull-.

If I'm alone, I suppose I can leave Viareggio at 6 in the morning and cover the 900 km from here to Solla in 8 hours, so to arrive there at about 14:00 and have lot of time to climate.

If instead I've some girl on board, I plan to stop at Passau for the night and do a bit of tourism

          just to be sure:

you want to go over 110km per hour in JANUARY? on average? through the ALPS??

I clearly remember my last tries to drive something with 2 wheels and an engine in january, which involved cold white stuff, ice, snow & the like - not that common in italy, I know. ice is not that bad (if you have enough space to break, that is), but a layer of melting snow on the road is evil... I have a very good idea why only bikes with sidecars were meeting there: they tend not to tilt on slippery surfaces.

I live 476 KMeters south of the alps, so I count to keep an average of 140/150 kmh before reaching them.
Dunno about the rest of the travel, but www.mappy.com says that I can reach Passau travelling for 99% on fast roads (what is the english term?), so I count to not find too much chaos.

And, even if I late a bit, I know I can drive for 10/12 hours without problems, so I can be there in time...uops...I forgot one thing: at what time is night in Germany at the beginning of February?

well, I would say it's getting dark after 4-5pm.

one thing to consider for austria: lots of tourists coming/going, so you have to expect quite some traffic, mainly on friday/saturday & sunday/monday. situation is usually getting worse at the end of january: traffic jams even on the autobahn, especially if petrus throws his weight in.

Damn...ok, I suppose I'll sleep in Passau. I've got a couple of girlfriends of a couple of my friends from which to choose so I suppose that a night in an hotel will not be a problem, after all.
