  • Al Gore to endorse candidate for US President....

    Gore will endorse Howard Dean.

That should be the kiss of death in the general election

Cool! I knew there was a reason I hated Dean. Now I know that it's because Al Gore likes him!

So it is really a trick of Gore to support Liebermann??

This is more about Gore wanting to run in 2008 or 2012 than 2004. By supporting Dean, the liberal flavor of the month, Gore wins no matter if Dean wins or loses.

If Dean wins Gore could end up being his vice president or being appointed top some high cabinet post. This would rehab Gore as the 2004 kingmaker for being the first major party figure to endorse the new President. If Dean were then to win re-election in 2008 Gore would be well positioned to make a run in 2012.

If Dean loses, which is very likely, it sets Gore up as being to the left of Hillary because she voted for the war while Gore is backing the anti-war candidate this year. This would set him up nicely with the very liberal primary voters in 2008.
