You would surprised at how few Missiles the Chinese Field. I believe the number of missiles I stated was and is correct. They may have quite a few more warheads, but as far as warheads on deployable launch platforms, I think this is it.

China's Arsenal is a deterrent force only, not a credible Counterforce. Their missiles' accuracy is far too low for Counterforce anyway: their Missiles are essentially 1 Megaton City-Busters.

The Soviet SSBN force fields the SS-N-20 Seahawk ICBM, with accuracy only good enough for Strategic Soft Targets. Their Rail/Silo based SS-18s and later are Counterforce Capable. There are roughly 300 Russian Missiles in Silos and about another 360 on Mobile Railcars. The Russians also have about 128 Missiles on Sea-launched platforms.

The U.S. fields about 550 Missiles in Silos with roughly another 256 aboard SSBNs. The U.S. Sea Launched Ballistic Missiles are more than accurate enough for hard targets and counterforce missions. Not mentioned are the B2 Bombers and the B1-Bs that are each capabile of carrying quite a few ALCMs. The Russians currently do not have a viable strategic bomber.
