  • your personal speed record on a bicycle

What's your personal max speed on a bicycle? Please write what kind of bike you have. I own a Giant Green Park, a hybrid bike (a mixture between racing and trekking bike).

BTW: Of course I had strong following wind .

    O.K, here's my personal best:

I don't know, something 40ish I guess, on an older Stevens 4.1.2. mountain bike, but I'm not racing, I just used it to get to school (It's dismantled at the moment, and I don't have the energy to repair it. But I SHOULD ride it again, to lose some weight)

My all-times max speed has been 78km/h on a cheap mountain bike (going down a mountain road). On the road 64km/h with a borrowed racing bike, I couldn't get any faster even if the bike had a couple more gears to go
Anyway, if you go very fast with a bicycle I strongly recommend doing it with a good one.

        ciao, Ivan

        edit:

        cute bike brian

but we are talking about bicycles, don't we?

Some american make of racing bike I bought off an american who'd brought it over with him... was a nice bike though and I got to about 40-45 mph downhill a few times, if pedalling hard and tucked right down (and with the wind behind if stopped).

Coming to think of it, my son-in-law was stopped by the police on a pushbike. He was caught in a radar trap doing 68 kmh in a 50 zone, on the main road going into Lausanne from the Berne direction. It is quite a steep road (rises from ~400 m at the lake front to ~800 m at Chalet-à-Gobet over about 4 to 5 km, but not uniformly). Three days later, he was caught by a traffic-lights camera, on the same bike!!!

Anywhere between 58 and 62 km/h, was using an analog speedometer.

Was acheived on an old 42 lbs steel bike my dad got me after my better one was stolen.

43MPH. Going down a 3 mile hill with, I'm guessing, a 5-6% grade. This was on a Mountain Bike. I'm sure road bikes could go a lot faster.

Wow, we've some real "speed fanatics" in here. The bad thing (at least for me I guess) is the lack of mountains here in the northern part of Germany . So it will be almost impossible for me to break your records .

Maybe I should try some tuning .

Yes, you need to over-clock your legs.

I have no idea how fast I have biked. But I have done around 60 with my inlines.

Professional cyclists take EPO to "over-clock" their legs but I meant bike tuning .

somewhere slightly below 60. downhill on a normal trekking bike.

teached me to take more time when repairing a "deformed" front wheel. you never notice the slight asymmetry while driving slowly...

I've pushed near 40mph on flat terrain on my road bike in the summer on my training rides!

Then again, I don't drive and commute by bicycle, so far having covered about 4600 miles this year. Should hit at least 6000 miles next year!
