  • Weather brings disrupts new year

I see the Scots are getting whimpish. Called of the Edinbourgh new year celebrations due to high winds. Yet when they were interviewing people, some who paid £700 there was no sign of wind at all.
Bunch of whimps even softer than the Londeners.

This shows forecasted wind today at 15-42 mph, which is far from negligible for a fireworks display. I couldn't find the weather at midnight.

TV crews ALWAYS try to interview in sheltered conditions, so that there is minimal wind noise in the mike and no risk of rain blowing onto the lens, so it isn't surprising that there was no sign of wind. In fact, I would have chosen one of the arcades, such as in Cockburn Stree or South Bridge, for such interviews.

As an Edinbugger myself, I can assure you that it would require a serious event to call off Hogmanay celebrations. We have our feet solidly on the ground and no Scotsman is wimpish. I bet you wouldn't dare go up to Edinburgh and start shouting your views around.

Incidentally, I see Aberdeen cancelled it off, as well, for the same reasons.

    Happy New Year, quand même!
