  • Are people really this dumb/bored?

So, I'm browsing around on the net, and happen upon these comments about Postal 2 being ported to Linux. http://www.happypenguin.org/show?Pos...all=1#comments

I got to thinking, really, it's a VIDEO GAME. People spazzing out about violence in a video game is about as dumb as spazzing out that Dungeons and Dragons players are Satanists. Considering the fact that Satan is derived from the Egyptian god Set, and not a whole lot of D&D players know anything about Egypt...

Personally, I think something like Postal 2 is good. It helps you relieve violence. Someone pisses you off at work, you come home, boot up your computer, and piss ON someone in the game. Anyone who would try to do any of the things possible in Postal 2 in real life should be in a mental hospital or prison regardless of if they played violent video games. It's just the same thing with beating the crap out of a punching bag. It relieves stress. So to all those idiots who say video games are evil, and should be banned. Piss off, I'm busy killing protesters in the game

Hey! I play D&D, what makes you think I'm not a Satanist?

Well, I'm not saying that NO D&D players are Satanists... Just that not ALL D&D players are Satanists. Anyone remember MADD? Mothers Against Dungeons and Dragons? They later on turned it into Drunk Driving. But at one point in time it was against D&D.

I know all this because of course I used to play it a long long time ago...

Of course I still vividly recall when I was in middle school, they had this conference in the school auditorium where they invited all the parents. They were discussing Satanism. It was SO funny, because first of all they mentioned Dungeons and Dragons, and then they said that Heavy Metal was Satanic as well. And of course the funniest part was that they said, since Depeche Mode wears black, they must be Heavy Metal and Satanic as well! They mentioned Motley Crue as Satanic.

As soon as I got home from this, which I went to and laughed with my mother. I walked into my brother's room and scattered all over his table were Dungeons and Dragons books, and he was listening to Motley Crue. Isn't this country great?

I call upon the forces of ignorance and paranoia to smite thee!

Funny thing about D&D/Wizards of the Coast is that after getting to the point that most people probably don't think of anything worse than "geeks" when they hear the name D&D, they go and make an official Book of Vile Darkness which is exactly the kind of thing that would, if shown to the average person, make them believe that D&D IS evil.

Oh, and they charge too damn much for the books too.

            It's the damn born-again Christians.

No, I'm not just being a jerk here - hear me out.

I spent a large part of my childhood and early teen years suffering once a week through my parents' futile attempts to avoid being Jewish. I know, that sounds odd. But my mom was actively "born again" when they met, my dad wasn't much of anything (after dropping out of Hebrew School and the guaranteed scholarship to Rabbi college...), and he "converted" for the sake of appeasing her parents... and thus began the long journey of getting kicked out of more churches than most people know exist.

And I discovered one thing about born-again types.

They will believe ANYTHING that they hear, so long as it comes from another born-again type. EVEN if they know it's untrue. EVEN if it makes no sense whatsoever.

Dungeons and Dragons is a GREAT example. The PTA was responsible for that madness. They claim it made kids commit suicide. I DARE you - CHALLENGE you - even DEFY you to find a single suicide that had anything to do with D&D. One kid did off himself, and he was a D&D player. But before D&D came out he was into drinking a lot to escape his abusive parents. Oops.

So just when born again Christians are FINALLY starting to ****ing settle down and join the 21st century (Catholics, take heed!), the MEDIA has taken up their rallying cry. Tycho at Penny Arcade did a great rant on this, but suffice it to say that their local paper is SO biased against video games that when the "Child's Play" drive raised $250,000 in toys and another $25,000 in CASH for kids in a local hospital, the TV news story said the toys came from a local Catholic school.

            !!!

It's ****ing ridiculous. It makes me very angry, and as you can see quite incoherent.

Did anyone here catch last nights Law & Order: Criminal Intent? It was based on some kid playing violent video games and committing muder because of it. I was so disgusted by the plot I refused to watch it.

Actually, it was about a video game developer, and he killed someone he thought his partner was dating because he wanted to get the game they were working on finished. He was portrayed as a genuine nut job, not someone who killed because of seeing something in a video game.

I missed about 35 minutes in the middle of the show though, so I may have missed something (gf distracted me *grin*)
