Did I just miss a joke?

For me, its rather difficult to tell one US politician from the other (unless the one is obvious black).

MoveOn.org = Democrat Party propoganda site funded by a billionaire with nothing better to do with his money

      Al Gore = loser in our last Presidential election known for;

      1. doing an excellent imiation of an oak tree imitating a catatonic human being

      2. having a dreadfully monotone delivery

      3. putting his foot in his mouth up to the hip; as in claiming to have invented the internet while a US Senator

      4. absolutely horrendous timing

In this example he delivered a "global warming" speech on the coldest day NY has seen in ages

Where do you get this crap?

MoveOn.org is not funded by a billionaire - it's funded by donations from many thousands of average joe taxpayers (and voters). It was started by a (normal, not hideously wealthy) couple of people during the Clinton impeachment to try to convince the Republican-controlled congress to (paraphrasing) "censure Clinton and move on to important things" - hence the name. This group then became an official PAC a couple of years later.

On number 3 (claiming to have invented the internet), what he actually said was "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet". This was a statement about the (true and verifiable) efforts he made in getting funding to turn the ARPANet into what is now the Internet. He was first misquoted as saying "... invented the Internet" in a Republican party press release, which was then re-quoted in the mainstream media ad infinitum.

I'd be really curious to find out where you got your inaccurate information.

(I'm assuming you didn't make it up yourself )

He didn't take any initiative in creating ANYTHING.

ARPANet was turned into the Internet by mostly graduate students and researchers. Sure, they were using government money but there is little to no indication that Al Gore had ANYTHING to do with that.

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
            I would still get screwed

At the worst, Gore did fudge it a little with his statement. But, his record clearly shows that he was an early proponent of a high-speed national network (e.g. the Internet) for research & such.

@Gurm: The government money they were using was largely provided because of Gore. In this instance (I don't pretend to be a rabid Democrat or Gore supporter), it seems as though he had vision, and actually succeeded in getting appropriations which funded the projects that eventually turned into the Internet. No, he didn't invent it. He did, however, see that a network that allows businesses and citizens to communicate similarly to the way the military was starting to communicate would be a Good Thing(tm).

@BSD: He may have fudged things, but I'm not sure that this particular exaggeration was actually his doing.

@MMM: Indeed. No excuse for that.

I was responding to the inaccuracies in Doc Mordrid's post. I don't think that Gore (or any present day politician, for that matter) has a perfect record.

(actually, you can probably strike the "present day" from that last sentence. )
