I think she shouldn't have been bailed. Still in this country they'd have let her through.

    Õh for crying out loud.

When people loose their humor - even faced with really poor jokes - the civilisation as I know it is busted.

How many terroists would actually have joked about carrying a bomb?

This might actually JUST not have been me - but I have joked at customs several times.

    Christ.

Its nothing compared to the jokes Weve got when I disarmed hand grenades in the army. "I really cant remember if I pulled the ring - why dont you go and check??"
Off course I had to, anyhow. And it was always some stupid f00k that forgot to pull the pin or screw the detonator properly in.

Jokes was meant as a stress reliever. Even bad jokes.

75 years old, wow, he sounded much younger on the phone when I viewed the Sky News report.

How does her father's age have anything to do with it?

I think the problem was that she didn't fess up and say it was a joke when confronted.. but repeated 3 times that she had a bomb. I would have laughed the first time, but if she was crazy enough to tell some cop she had a bomb and then reiterate it twice more..

US security NEVER takes bomb threats lightly, especially when you are in an airport. Even before 9|| they would arrest and question you even if you said I have a bomb jokingly in an airport. No surprises here.

I seem to remember at US International Airports notices prominently posted saying something like, "Do not joke about security: all statements will be taken seriously". Are these notices not still there? Perhaps she can't read.

That would explain why a student can take a three month break in term time!

The BBC interviewed her: she didn't strike me as being a budding Einstein.

Don't know what UK security is like as I don't fly anymore. Judging how one local reported managed to walk around an airport without being challenged after walking in through an open gate I'd say slack.
Anyway you'd got to take the joke seriously it's just not worth the risk. Can you imagine the outcry if she had a bomb and hijacked the plane?
