MER Opportunity did detect Hematite with a infrared detector. The Rolloff of Opportunity gave us the first real look of the texture of the sediment there...very fine.
They aleady gave Spirit the command to dump all of it's priority mission data to Mars Global Surveyor and/or directly to Earth.
They essentially are formatting Spirit's Flash memory card this evening followed by a reinstall of the base mission files.

Hey Did anyone see Jay Leno a week or two ago when they first had the problems with Spirt? They had a picture up there of why Spirt was acting up....It said NASA has found the problem with Spirt...its landed in a bad Neigbourhood..and it had Spirt up on Blocks with Earth Sucks spray painted on the side of it...any have a capture of it? LOLWhy is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?Comment

Great minds think alike (or something)
There is another oddity about 45deg right of that one that looks like it has a green tinge.
Hopefully, they will have lot's of time to inspect it all close up.
