It's spoken in two dead languages: Latin and Aramaic, because Mel Gibson wanted to give us the words as we actually would have heard them then. I agree that I would like to be able to pay more attention to the actors' faces when they are speaking, but I suppose one could watch it twice.

Well it's interesting, because despite the Catholic Church's insistence (and let's face it - what they call "Latin" is really pretty bastardized anyway) there is no concrete evidence that anyone EVER spoke Latin. Ever. Anywhere. They spoke Italian, and WROTE Latin. So the fact that they speak Latin in the movie right away is just silly. It's silly to listen to people speaking Latin. You can't build an empire speaking a language that unwieldy!
As for Aramaic, I'd love to know how anyone knows what Aramaic is supposed to sound like. *shrug*

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
I would still get screwed
In one of the scenes they showed Pilate talking to Jesus. Jesus spoke Aramaic and Pilate spoke Latin. How weird. Presumably they both understood both languages.
In sweden we ONLY dub childrens stuff, all other are subtitled

I've got no problem with subtitles, CT,HD and Das Boot are two good examples of the non-English dialog with subtitles that are more entertaining than the English tracks.
