System Shock 2. It's the only game that I'd be afraid to be alone by myself after playing - and that was only 2 years ago. Really scary.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

So you say I should try Sysshock 2? I really really liked Deus Ex - the voices of the FEMA agents were creepy...

Sysshock2 is one of the most underrated games ever. It's a FPS with some of my favorite integration of RPG elements (you get things that are basically like experience points, and develop your character's skills - psychic, or weapons expert, or good with equipment/science). I've played it through twice, and there's still weapons and stuff that I've found, but never went along the path that would let me use them.
The storyline is cool (kinda how Half-Life made you keep playing), and the game can give you nightmares. There were times playing it when I thought "Okay, I'm in a safe place," and hearing certain monsters find me would give a full-on adrenaline rush.

This game just wasn't hyped or something. I got it for $10 a while back, some of the best money I've spent on a game ever.

Plus, one thing I really liked is that for the entire game, I felt low on ammo. Most games, I always have whatever ammo I want, but SS2 makes itself challenging in that you almost always have to choose when to fire, or at least go against an enemy with your 2nd- or 3rd-choice weapon. Going melee is *hard*, but necessary.

System Shock 2 was definitly underhyped and underrated. It's in the same family of games as the thief/deus ex games.

it's a fantastic game that not a lot of people know about.

Unreal made me jump when I encountered the bugs for the first time in the dark.

Depends. If crisps give you a serious case of the "deadly farts", I'd be scared.
