  • My fun the past couple of days!

I woke up a bit early Monday morning. Wow I says to myself. I should check some stuff on the server and reboot it before everyone gets in. Well I get all the way to work and into my office. My COmputer is off that I left on. I look at my phone and the night-mode light is not on? I look at the screen and it says major error. Hmm phone problems. Wait the server is not on. Power went out obviously OK, says I. Reboot the server no problems. There are protections in place after all. While the server is rebooting, I check the phone system. The CPU Card has some different lights flashing than before. "DB Error" and "Minor Error". **** says I. I cannot get into the phone system, but I can restart it properly. It comes back up and quickly returns to the previously mentioned state. I call the company that maintains the phones. The claim we owe them money from back in November and many other times. The number of times is bullshit. We even had work done in February with no billing problems so how could we owe. We paid. We had no choice.

We need to make phone calls so before they get here I start setting up a regular house phone to the main number at the front desk. It works with a very unusual ring. Everyone chuckles at it a few times. Boss lady gets a dozen more a few hours later so I proceed to hook up every loan officer and processor. Meanwhile two people decide to tell me that they need phones. I could have murdered them or said something bad about their mothers. Instead, I told them I would get to them when I get to them. with an irritated voice. It's not like they did not see me hooking them up for others. Meanwhile hooking up the phones and reworking the patch panel and keeping track of the changes to switch it back after was giving me a headache. I did it wrong the first four times. I worked out my pattern and was off and running. Around 3:30PM the telephone tech gets here and checks out the system. He thinks its just a matter of reloading the software. We should have everything back except for the custom recordings. He egts finished about 5PM and makes some quick custom recordings himself and tells me exactly how to customize them with a better voice. Sweet says I and I rpoceed to switch all the phones back. That actually goes off without a hitch. I leave around 6:30PM.

Two hours later I get a phone call. All kinds of stuff is screwed up. Call work. Again, ****!, says I. Some lights do not work some machines will not turn on, some machines cannot see the server, etc . . . I pack a bag of clothes, soap, towels, etc . . . just in case.

I get to work and find out that resetting the breakers is no good. The switch that connects some of the machines is plugged into one of the dead outlets. I was able to move that right then and there. We map out the dead outlets and figure out how many extension cords we need. I go over my bosses' house (My Cousin and her Husband), eat some wheat spagetti with Italian sausage and sauce, play with their dogs for a few and go to bed (in this case sofa). I get at work 8:30 am and find a couple extension cords and start plugging the earlier people in. One person bringing their spare cords in gets in and everything is functioning. We're waiting for BGE to dig up the ground out back and fix it. Cheers!

It was all appreciated. Usually much is not going on and I maybe run business errands to keep busy and help out in other minor ways. The network's needs are minor since it is fully set up and very well protected.

As one last jab at me, fate had me cause a spark from line current about a foot in front of my face this morning as if to warn me not to relax for even a second. It blew out one of the circuits that was out before. I was just trying to put everything back to normal.
