Hehe, when I had a nice veggie garden up north where 40C is a normal day in summer...I grew my whole garden underneath large tree...except the pumpkin which took over half the yard

It worke a treat, My tomato plants pretty much got out of control..we had bowls and bowls of tomato's. They were a golden kind of cherry or grape tomato...very nice.

But Staypuffman you're not forced to grow in 5 gallon buckets... Florida dirt is sand and mixed into that is limestone rocks from the age old reefs we sit upon. Also another pain is keeping them away from the sprinkler system.. we draw water from the lake out back. During dry season (like now) the water is brown... really icky and some parasite gets into the leaves which makes a mess of them.

Funny how my neighbour was chatting with me about gardening, sharing her rich knowledge of the subject (HAHA) one day when I offered to mix up some maneur into her Dieffenbachia plant pots... which are root bound and looked rather bleh... she gave me a look like... you want to put that stinky shit into my pots?! it is composted and smells like plain old rich dirt... best thing for them.
