  • Good torrent sites?

Anyone know of any good torrent sites other than suprnova.org?

  • #2
there are loads of other torrent sites, but most of them cater on a single type of content you're looking for.

Might I add that most torrent sites carry illegal stuff, and that subject is a bit touchy on these forums...

Yeah, that's why i just asked for URL's not, what content is on them. But mentioning a URL isn't illegal. Linking directly to a specific torrent may be another issue entirely.

Yeah, but the idea of providing links to facilitate your pirating of software is generally considered against the rules of the board.

'Scuse my ignorance, but what's a torrent site? We don't have them in hell, but it may be worth introducing them if they're illegal

with content type I meant exactly that, not the legality of the content. categories like TV Shows, music, etc.

Brian: bittorrent is a Peer2Peer software protocol which allows you to download file(s) specified in a torrent (=a 'definition' of which object can be retrieved from where through bittorrent). They're quite populair and are used for legal purposes too, as they will distribute the files through/between all users who have a torrent running at the same time, offloading traffic from the main server where the 'main seed' of the object is located.

torrent site have links to files based off of using a bittorrent client. You have to install the torrent client before downloading the file. My complaint is that as you download the file, you can be leeched off for the same file to someone else and there isnt anything you can do about it, so you might be pulling down at 5k/sec but uploading at your full bandwidth slowing surfing etc...

This depends only on how good client you have. I recommend Azureus, the only java app I find very good and can't live without.

The new GPL version of Shareaza supports bittorrent too. It's pretty good, so far...

The original BT client has a command line argument (look in the FAQ) that limits upload bandwidth.
That can make a big difference in DL speed if you have an asymetric connection.
