Titanium is the new bling!

(i would like to point out that this is a rather... old... thing)

I don't think it should be banned right away, people have become too dependant upon DHMO. IMHO, it should instead be slowly phased out of use to give people time to adapt to it's loss, and to find a replacement universal solvent.
Did you also know that DHMO and it's alloys are common even in the crust and mantle of the Earth, and that it's presence significantly lowers the melting point of minerals which in turn gives rise to increased volcanic activity? DHMO, along with doubly oxidized carbon, are the primary volatiles that drive virtually all of the worlds dangerous volcanoes.
Despite rumors, the dihydrogen monoxide hoax shows that even the most innocuous of substances can be made to sound like a dangerous threat to human life.
Update: In March 2004 the California municipality of Aliso Viejo (a suburb in Orange County) came within a cat's whisker of falling for this hoax after a paralegal there convinced city officials of the danger posed by this chemical. The leg-pull got so far as a vote having been scheduled for the City Council on a proposed law that would have banned the use of foam containers at city-sponsored events because (among other things) they were made with DHMO, a substance that could "threaten human health and safety."
Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.
which just re-affirms my belief that politicians are basically clue-less.
Yeah, well I'm gonna build my own lunar space lander! With blackjack aaaaannd Hookers! Actually, forget the space lander, and the blackjack. Ahhhh forget the whole thing!
Talking of hoaxes, I put up a spoof page on salt at http://www.bnellis.com/msc/ with an MSDS at http://www.bnellis.com/msc/MSC_MSDS.htm, several years ago. Word must have got around; a few days later I received an e-mail from a well-known international eco-political NGO, informing me that they were forwarding the information to their scientific committee with a view that action be taken to ban it. Needless to say, I heard nothing more, but I bet the scientific committee had a damn good laugh!
