I'm on the telephone preferances service and just had a cold caller.

Gave the guy abit of grief and demanded where he got my number from. BT he replied they gave us the info for our database we're not selling anything. Nope so why do you want to know if any of my family have worked for British Steel and have had injuries.? Your call calling so get lost.

Just wait til I get hold of BT.

There is a number you can call to opt out.
If a company phones you AFTER you have rang the number they get fined

Shout if you want it.

I've already opted out hence my bad mood.

I've had ZERO sales calls in 4 years since opting out.

I think the company is technically claiming they're not doing sales just offering a service. Anyway I'll get hold of BT tomorrow or Friday and give them some grief.

ISDN, phonebook and caller id.

Sales usually use computer dialer system with hidden ID, so I don't answer.

You can also block certain numbers.

If they don't have a caller ID they can't ring me period.

Unfortunately some switchboards seem to block caller ID one way or another. If my mum calls me from the hospital (she's a nurse) and I miss it and dial 1471, it actually says "the caller with-held their number".
