Happened to a friend of mine, got a piece of metal stuck in his pinky from doing the dishes. Had a wierd growth, as if the body was trying to expel the metal but ended up having to get operated on cause it was lodged way inside. All went well and he is able to use his finger normally, took a while before he could bend it but still.

Hope things go good with your operation.

A typo it was, and given the amount of pain meds in my system, not entirely unexpected

As you may have deduced I did not have to go into hospital for further surgery though I did have another outpatient surgery to cut away some dead tissue & clean things up a bit.

BTW: it was a staph infection so things could have gone lots worse.

The IV antibiotics (3,000 mg Unasyn every 6 hrs for 10 days ) did their job, though my hand still looks rather ugly and I have to type 1.2 handed.

Basically I have a 4 cm diameter/1cm deep crater in my left palm with a rather large drain and thick bandage covering it. The plastic surgeons say it'll take at least several weeks to completely heal.

I'm on 750 mg of Augmentin every 12 hours (damned horse pill antibiotics!!) and have to soak the wound in soapy water/betadine & change the dressing/drain every 12 hours.

                  Lotsa fun.

wow, that sucks. closest to that i've had is an infected hair folicle that developed into a cyst spontaniously while I was in the field... when i got done draining it of puss it was about 1cm wide by 2cm long and about 1cm deep (although it was swolen like a mother****er). damn thing hurt like a bitch and the best that i could do is cram some toilet paper into it hoping it would stay (it didn't) and keep going, then wash it out frequently when i got a chance...
