  • worst trailer ever?

I finally got my Xbox hooked up again. I've been wanting to play the demo for the Riddick game I got with Xbox magazine a few months ago.

The game is really hyped but the demo didn't impress me so I started looking for other content on the disk.

There was a trailer for "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow".

It looks horrible. Every scene in the trailer was either entirely bad CG or bad blue screening on top of bad CG. The blue screen kept reminding me of the Wing Commander III game with Mark Hamill. It was cool at the time but not anymore. They must have saved a bundle on sets and locations; it looked like the entire movie was shot on a sound stage in LA.

Has anyone heard of this? Does it have high expectations?

Saw a preview w/Spiderman 2 and it looked much better than the trailer, but it's my understanding that they used almost totally digital sets.

No idea, but Riddick is one of the best XBOX games I have ever played
The Welsh support two teams when it comes to rugby. Wales of course, and anyone else playing England

People kept saying that but I didn't like the demo at all. I'll have to give it another try. I did like the menu system.

Looking at the previews, I have no desire to see Sky Captain...

            Looks cheesy as can be.

Quicktime trailer here. (warning: High bandwidth.)

Looks interesting. A sort of retro-thirties image of the future. Sir Lawrence Olivier is featured as the villain, constructed in hologram form from old film clips. (link)

Should be interesting, if nothing else. I love those old 1930's sci-fi features. Never get to see nearly enough of them.

Nearly everything is CG, that is the point. Only the actors and what they are wearing aren't CG. A bunch of items they are holding are CG though.

The movie was created by a guy who had been working on this multimedia project for a very long time. He created some software that makes it easier to do blue screening stuff.

That's how people felt about Tron, and now it's considered a pioneer in the field.

I saw a bit of Tron, is was bad and the CG made it really tiresom to watch.
Usingh to much CG will always suck.
Then there are movies that uses just enough, like T2

I think that the CG is supposed to complement the story, not be the story.

If the media truly is the message, then the message I'm receiving from this movie is that gimmick supersedes story. I disagree.

I think that on its own, Tron was a bad movie (story and plot wise). But the message it conveyed, one of techno wonder and excitement, is what made it a huge success. So far, Sky Captain just doesn’t register on that level.
