I read an interview with Matt Stone and Trey Parker where they said they were working on something with puppets but they didn't let on that it was anything like this.

As I was watching the trailer I thought, this could be great if the writing doesn't flop. I love the irreverance of South Park. I hope they did a good job with this too!
